Zoe Saldana has been part of multiple franchises, but her most memorable role has to be Gamora in the MCU. Beginning her journey with James Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxy, Saldana’s character traversed films and became part of the Avengers journey against Thanos in the filmsAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora

With her stint as Gamora coming to an end with the release of last year’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol.3,Zoe Saldana is reportedly free to join her director James Gunn in his other job as the head of DC Studios. Circe

The magician and illusionist Zatanna Zatara has been portrayed once on screen by Serinda Swan in the CW showSmallville. The character is known in the comics for her magical capabilities and is part of the more mystical part of the DC universe. She is part of the homo magi race and has ties with the Justice League Dark, which includes heroes like Constantine, Doctor Fate, Swamp Thing, and Wonder Woman among others.

James Gunn usually has a penchant for heroes who are not popular (hisSuperman: Legacynot included) much like the Guardians. Hence, castingZoe Saldanain the role of Zatanna would be perfect for the actress. She excels in roles that are a tad bit different from the mainstream and she has already played other-worldly characters in theAvataruniverse and the JJ AbramsStar Trekuniverse.

Circe is another mystical character but is an antagonist. An arch-nemesis of Wonder Woman, Circe has magical powers that are so strong that she is almost as powerful as a goddess. She invokes the powers of the Greek Goddess of Witchcraft and Sorcery Hecate and uses her powers to assume world domination. Though she is selfish and is known for working only for herself, she has a daughter whom she cares about more than anything in the world.

Zoe Saldana has not played a villain before. Even though she is initially on the side of Thanos inGuardians of the Galaxy, she changes loyalty after meeting Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, and Drax. But Saldana proves that she can pull it off and playing Circe might just be the perfect way for her to explore that side of her. Circe was rumored to be the villain in Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s threequel forWonder Womanbefore James Gunn canceled it.

Star Sapphire

While fans were subjected to Blake Lively’s portrayal of Carol Ferris a.k.a Star Sapphire in the Ryan Reynolds starerGreen Lantern, the character is still great in the comics and has a lot of potential. The second time is usually the charm when it comes to comic book adaptations and Zoe Saldana as Star Sapphire in the DCU could be one of the best portrayals of the character. James Gunn has mentioned how developing the Green Lantern Corps is important for the DCU and being part of that film franchise will be great for Saldana.
