It appears that Xbox players are running the risk of having bans imposed if they upload any images of a ‘spicy’ variety from the in-game play ofBaldur’s Gate 3. Whilst the game is well known for the amorous liaisons that can take place, it appears that Microsoft has set out its stall in terms of what is deemed acceptable.

Players will have to be careful about what they are uploading to Xbox servers.

Those players who decide to upload imagery of a saucy nature that is deemed offensive will see the content removed and the following message – “temporarily prohibited from sharing additional imagery (typically for 24 hours)“. It should be noted that a ban is imposed for each clip so dependent on how many clips are uploaded is the corresponding length of ban which could be imposed.

What can players do to avoid an Xbox ban?

As we well know,Baldur’s Gate 3is full of mature content, and as such players can indulge in certain amorous acts that may make some people blush. As reported onEuroGamerMicrosoft has had to come out to advise that they will be issuing bans to players whose consoles have uploaded images that capture nudity within the game.

They have, however, advised that it would be willing to reverse any bans if indeed it is deemed that these images were uploaded in error. Microsoft went on to state that if players were worried about this happening then they should look at disabling the auto-upload feature to avoid any potential/future bans being implemented on Xbox.

Despite this latest issue for the 2023 GOTY, it appears that Microsoft is unwilling to address itspoliciesand practices and instead, the focus will be entirely on the players in terms of any wrongdoing.

The developers have described the bans as ‘annoying and uncool’and on their official X page, a spokesperson for Larian had the following update for players on 5 January;

“Holy f**k what the hell is that”: Helldivers 2 Devs May Have Shadow Dropped a Terrifying New Enemy as Part of the Latest Hotfix

Players whose capture clips have been flagged on Xbox should now see their bans begin to lift. Work is ongoing, and the Microsoft team is aware of the issue! If you’re wanting to upload any clips in the meantime, ensure to turn off mature content

In response to the controversy regarding bans, Microsoft has come out to state that bans are not automatically imposed and that each clip is reviewed by an individual moderator. Following this review, if the user is found to be in violation of the company’s policies on safety and content, then action will be taken accordingly.

However, they stated that any ban could be reversed if the action was taken in error. So if an image was auto-uploaded completely by mistake then Microsoft would take this into account and guide how to avoid this in the future, deeming it a ‘first-time offence‘. Any players looking to check out the guidance on how to disable the auto-upload can do sohere.

This latest issue forBG3follows on from the recent problems that players have been experiencing regarding save data and there has been a recent update on that also. The developer advised that Microsoft had identified the cause of the bug and would be issuing firmware to address this in due course.

Baldur’s Gate 3is a game that is no stranger to ‘spicy’ scenes but the fact that Microsoft is issuing bans on the uploading of images seems to be just a tad over the top, given the mature rating. Thankfully Larian is working with them to address this and this appears to be just another bump in the road for the 2023 Game of the Year.
