X-Men ’97 has been taking the world by storm, singlehandedly thrusting the X-Men back into the cultural zeitgeist, putting the spotlight back on some of the most beloved characters that Marvel Comics has had. However, there have been certain storylines that have also found their way into the show, some of which have had audiences a little on edge, understandably so.

At the beginning of the show, we see that Rogue and Gambit have been continuing their blossoming romance, and all seems well and good for the couple until Magneto enters the scene with the last will and testament of Charles, which puts Professor X’s considerable wealth, assets and the X-Men in his hands. Ever since he enters the fray, Rogue and Magneto start their own little flirtation on the side, one that seems all sorts of creepy to a slew of fans, painting Magneto in a very sinister light.

However, Beau DeMayo has come out with some information that makes the relationship between Magneto and Rogue a little palatable, but not any less creepy for some fans. Magneto has been the thorn in Gambit’s side when it comes to the relationship he has with Rogue, and it all comes to a head in an emotionally charged scene in Episode 5. Little did fans know, that was just the beginning of Gambit’s very bad day.
Writer of X-Men ’97 revealed Rogue’s actual age in the show
Ever since the hintedromance between Magneto and Roguebegan, fans have been a little more than agitated at the age gap between the two. Rogue is someone who is clearly on the younger side, and MAgnet has been alive since before the Second World War, which has led a lot of fans to speculate that Rogue probably met Magneto when she was underage.

Given that the character would be in their early 20s, her current age is in the late 20s to early 30s, which would put Magneto around 60. While less creepy, this relationship still puts an age gap of about 30-40 years between Magneto and Rogue, which might still rub some fans the wrong way.

Rogue could become a more radical figure followingX-Men ’97Episode 5
Episode 5, Remember Me, ofX-Men ’97saw the Rogue/Magneto/Gambit love triangle get solved, in a manner of speaking. The Sentinel that attacked Genosha claimed the lives of multiple mutants, including Magneto, who went out saving a bunch of mutants, and Gambit, who sacrificed himself to take down the Sentinel.

The episode saw Rogue being offered a chance to be by Magneto’s side as they ruled over Genosha, an offer that she considered taking but ultimately turned down. However, due to the nature of the episode, she never got to tell Gambit that she turned it down, who died assuming Rogue chose Magneto over him.
With both Magneto and Gambit gone, two men who very much loved her, Rogue could see herself aligned with a more malicious strain of mutants, going to war against whoever unleashed the Sentinel on Genosha. She could even lead the mutant faction in a mutant-human war if it came to that.
