But despite an enjoyable exchange, to everyone’s surprise, including Raj and Howard, Sheldon shuts the door because she missed the deadline and found atomic spectroscopy boring. While the scene was successful with its comedic set-up and payoff, to this date, fans feel the writers missed out on a major opportunity by not delving into a romantic tangent with the two.
Fortunately, things worked out greatly between Sheldon and Amy, and the latter’s involvement in the show also took theburden off Parsons’ shoulders.

Although Jim Parsons too initially entertained the prospect of Sheldon being asexual with science being his lone mistress, he had no issues whenChuck Lorreopted to push his character into a romantic direction.
