The world ofCriminal Mindshas brought forth several storylines and relationships. While some have been well received by fans, others have sometimes managed to raise a few eyebrows. One such dynamic was between Kristen Vangsness’s Penelope Garcia and Shemar Moore’s Derek Morgan. The duo had a platonic relationship on the show. However, this was filled with playful flirtations and humorous banters.

While fans obviously adored their unique dynamic, it often walked a fine line between lighthearted teasing and crossing certain professional boundaries. Garcia in particular frequently pushed the limits of the show with her comments that would be considered inappropriate or even workplace harassment in real life.
How Penelope Garcia’s Flirting with Derek Morgan Crossed a Major Line onCriminal Minds?
American police procedural dramaCriminal Mindscompletely changed the crime genre when it was released in 2005. Not only that but it also presented a great ensemble of actors bringing the entire Behavioral Analysis Unit to reality. Among the lot,Shemar Moorewas quite well known for his portrayal of the confident and often hot-tempered Derek Morgan.
Despite this, Derek shared a flirtatious and playful relationship with Penelope Garcia who’s the technical analyst of the unit. While their teasing and friendship are beloved by some fans, others see it as crossing professional boundaries and inappropriate. While the flirting was done by both the characters it was often Garcia who pushed the limits.

Morgan on the other hand kept things relatively light and often civil, but she used to go all out with her suggestive comments and remarks. While this happened on television, if the same happened in real life then this would be considered workplace harassment due to the nature of her remarks.
For instance, in the show, she outright asked Morgan“If I figure it out, does it earn me a night of passionate lovemaking?”Even the show called out their behavior in season 9 during a Human Resource seminar with a PowerPoint presentation on s-xual harassment. The presentation added that phrases such as“Baby Girl,” “Chocolate Thunder”and“Where’s my big black twelve-pack?”can amount to harassment.

Penelope Garcia reacts to the said seminar with frustration adding to Morgan that maybe somebody reported them. To this Morgan completely dismisses the situation, adding that he’s not going to change how he behaves with her just because Human Resources didn’t understand their jokes. Despite this intervention, the duo continued their playful flirtations on the show.
