While the host brought up the topic of all the plastic surgeries the actress had gotten down seemingly out of the blue but in a complimentary manner, Fonda was anything but pleased with it.
“You’ve been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically,”Megyn Kellyhad said, complimenting the Oscar winner.

She then added, “You admit you’ve had work done, which I think is to your credit, but you look amazing. I read that you said you felt you’re not proud to admit that you’ve had work done. Why not?”
To this, theGrace and Frankieactress shot back, “We really want to talk about that now?” It’s worth noting that, perDr. Richard Rand, Fonda had breast implants at the beginning of her career, a full facelift in her 40s, and a second facelift in her 70’s along with her recent chin lift and eye surgery to address the ever-growing bags underneath her eyes –just like Tom Cruise.
Despite Fonda’s response, Kelly further pressed on with her question with a further compliment, saying, “Well, one of the things people think about when they look at you is how amazing you look.” But the actress made it clear that she wasn’t going to have any of that talk at that moment in front of her co-starRobert Redford, and shut down the topic for good, saying,
Good attitude, good posture, I take care of myself. But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, ‘Our Souls at Night,’ rather than plastic surgery.
Either way, this moment still managed to get Kelly on fire as Fonda later expressed how shocked she was about it all. But perhaps the most surprising part was that, despite the backlash, Kelly was still in defense of the interview.

During another interview withEntertainment Tonight Canada, theBarbarellaactress talked about how the host’s question caught her off-guard, saying,
“[I was] a little bit [shocked at the question]. Given the fact that we don’t have a lot of time and Bob is right here, it’s a weird thing to bring up — whether I’ve had plastic surgery or not. I have and I’ve talked about it. Seemed like the wrong time and place to ask that question.”
Nonetheless, as much as the question may have left Fonda offended, Megyn Kelly was anything but apologetic over it. If anything, she defended that interview back then during a segment on her show aired the following year, claiming she “gave [Fonda] the chance to empower other women, young and old, on a subject which she purports to know well and she rejected it.”

PerVariety, Kelly said,
“I have no regrets about the question. Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate. After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage.”
She even went on to refer to her as ‘Hanoi Jane’, the brutal nickname Fonda acquired when she spoke out against the war in Vietnam.
All in all, Kelly and Fonda butting heads was anything but okay with many, especially all those critics who deemed the show host’s remarkssexist. Even then, the 53-year-old has managed to continue to lead a star-studded career, so perhaps the blow wasn’t all that hard on her.
