Suitswasn’t just another legal drama—it was THE legal drama, thanks to slick characters, sharp dialogue, and a whole lot of swagger. But behind the scenes? USA Network was up to some sneaky tricks, trying to shove in unnecessary changes every week. Picture this: the execs pushing for tweaks, only for the show’s creator to nix them right out of the final edit.

It’s like they didn’t get what madeSuitsgreat in the first place! The show’s genius wasn’t about following every network note; it was about keeping that fast-talking, high-stakes energy intact. Week after week, unnecessary additions got the boot, proving sometimes less really is more—especially when your cast is already rocking the courtroom.
Behind the Scenes: How Aaron Korsh Fought Off USA Network’sSuitsTweaks and Kept His Vision
Aaron Korshdidn’t exactly hold back whentalking about USA Network’s weekly meddling withSuits.Every week, they wanted more client of the week drama—what they called ‘the puppy.’ But Korsh wasn’t having it. He revealed,
The network wanted a case of the week, every week, in the first season. I had a fundamentally different view of the show than they did, I think. They had this notion that the client of the week was going to be “the puppy,” the thing that the audience was going to care about.

Oh, we’d add them and shoot them and then I’d cut them out of the edit, and no one ever said, Put them back. No one noticed! The next year, they were like, You know what? You don’t need a case of the week. But again, I’m not sure it was a bad thing to be a little bit more procedural the first season. It wasn’t my taste, but it wasn’t a terrible idea.
WhileSuitswas originally pushed into that procedural lane, Korsh always had his own vision. His belief? No one really cared about those random clients—they cared about Mike Ross (Patrick Adams) and Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). And by season two, the network finally loosened its grip, letting the show’s serialized storyline shine. Korsh said,

I will also add that some people say that the reason that Suits is so successful is that you don’t have to pay attention — it’s a case of the week and you may have it on while you’re cooking a chicken or whatever.
But no one who says that has seen Suits after the first season because it becomes a highly serialized show. And look, I don’t think that we’re Mad Men, but we’re not … I don’t want to insult another show, but we’re not just a straight-up procedural.

WithSuitsnow blowing up on Netflix, Korsh credited the show’s charm and its mix of drama with comedy. Oh, and let’s not forget the Meghan Markle effect. Back when she was just playing Rachel Zane, Markle’s royal romance with Prince Harry was bubbling up in the background, adding even more buzz to the show. And yeah, the royal family weighed in on some scripts, leaving Korsh a bit annoyed.
Patrick J. Adams Admitted Suits isn’t Peak Cinema But People Watch it Because It Has Something Better to Offer
But in the end,Suitsfound its groove, proving that a solid vision (and a little pushback) can go a long way—even if you have to cut out the network’s puppy every now and then.
Patrick Adams Imagined Ross and Rachel’s Post-SuitsLife
Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross onSuits, dove back into the show with co-starSarah Rafferty(Donna) through theirSidebar: A Suits Rewatch Podcast.Adams shared insights on his rewatch journeyand revealed where he thought his character andMeghan Markle’s Rachel Zane would be today.
Though not in touch often, Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, sent Adams a lovely text supporting the podcast. Adams hoped she’ll join an episode someday. Reflecting on where Ross and Rachel are now? Adams imagined the couple thriving in Seattle, running their law firm, crushing it with class-action suits. And, yes, they’d have kids by now, living a more laid-back life compared to their corporate days.
