The legend of Hayao Miyazaki and his great masterpieces is known to everyone who is even remotely accustomed to the anime industry. The screenwriter of the anime movie was Miyazaki, and he did an excellent job with the narrative, considering the fame and recognition the film received after its release.
While the entire story was planned by Miyazaki, he had to make a change in the ending for some reason. However, he once revealed his thoughts behind the original conclusion of the series and how, despite being a sentimental mess, it was portrayed perfectly within the story ofWhisper of the Heart.

The wholesome ending ofWhisper of the Heart
Whisper of the Heartfollows the story of Shizuku Tsukishima, who loves creative writing and is often busy reading books. The story then leads to Seiji moving away to follow his dreams while Shizuku decides to focus on her writing by staying in school.
The series has a lot of dramatic elements that are mainly used to portray the love of Seiji and Shizuku’s need to find a purpose. However, the conclusion written byHayao Miyazakibrings a nice completion to their individual plots with Seiji confessing his love for Shizuku and wanting to marry her in the future.

Miyazaki stated:
Why am I proposing [this film] .. is because no matter how hard middle-aged men try to point out the naivete and fragility of such dreaming, we can never deny the longing for an encounter with the opposite sex, so wholesomely and honestly depicted in the original story.
He explained that although middle-aged men often taunt the feeling of a wholesome love experience, they still long for it, and this feeling was portrayed through theWhisper of the Heart.
