Ashika Island, aCall of Duty: WarzoneResurgence map that wasonly added in February, 2023, is being removed from the game’s map rotation later this month. The news was confirmed yesterday evening by Warzone developerRaven Softwarein a new post on X (formerly Twitter).

The studio confirmed that the popular Resurgence map, which was created by Call of Duty support studio, High Moon Studios, will “soon see its last week in Modern Warfare 3.” Players who want to drop into Ashika Island, possibly for the final time, will be able to drop in from May 23rd as part of the weekly playlist update.

Will it be the shot in the arm? Or the kick in the back?

“We’re directing our focus toward other map-mode combinations for upcoming playlist updates,” Raven Software said. “This is part of our continued effort to provide players with a recurring, focused playlist that delivers on the best player experience.”

Raven Software then ended its statement by confirming that the week of May 23rd would give players one last chance to enjoy Ashika Island “before it gracefully exits the rotation.” The map’s developer, High Moon Studios, also chimed into the announcement with its own statement, which you’re able to read below.

Could We Be Inching Closer To The Return Of Verdansk?

Late last year, areportfrom Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claimed that Warzone’s very first Battle Royale map, Verdansk, would be returning “by the end of 2024.”

With Ashika Island now set to leave the rotation so Raven Software can focus on other maps and modes, could this mean that the studio is hard at work on Verdansk’s return? There’s no way to know for certain, but with the next mainline Call of Duty game speculated to be revealed at a special Xbox showcase next month, we might not have to wait much longer to find out.

Fans have been speculating for months now onwhat the next Call of Duty game will be titled, with many rumours pointing toward the title either being called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

If Raven Software sticks with tradition, and rumours of Verdansk’s return turn out to be true, we could see the map returning with the next Call of Duty game in either October or November.
