How To Promote Characters
Players will be able to promote units at any Fort once they reach Renown Level B (1750 Renown). You passively gain Renown by just playing through the game, completing missions, and making deliveries. But thefastest way to farm Renown is by speedrunning Sigil Trials.
I reached 1750 Renown after completing most of Cornia and exploring some of Drakenhold.
After you recruitSelvie (Shaman), she’ll introduce you to your firstSigil Trialin Cornia at level 6. Afterward, you’ll be able to discover other Sigil trials as you come across them in the overworld.
Sigil Trials are repeatable quests that give Renown, Gold, Honors, and XP when completed. Repeatedly beating a Sigil Trial is the fastest way to gain Renown to unlock the ability to promote units and gain Honors to do the deed.
When To Promote Characters
Promote your favorite 6-8 Characters as soon as you reach Renown B if you have all your units expanded to 4 slots.This should give you enough mileage to form two extremely powerful unit formations to serve as your go-tos in battle.
Then,wait until you reach Renown Aand gain the ability toexpand unit slots to 5. The jump from 4 to 5 slots per unit is a massive increase in effective DPS and is much more important than promoting units.
Hoard Honors until you expand at least three units to 5 slots before thinking about promotingany of your other characters. You’ll eventually earn enough Renown to promote every last unit in your roster, so there is no need to be hasty.
Drakenhold, Elheim, and Albion have tons ofpre-promoted unitsthat you’ll be able to recruit as you complete side quests in those regions.
