When fans got their first look atStar Wars Outlawsback in 2023, they were equal parts excited and nervous. Everyone wants moreStar Wars,but given that it was in the hands of Ubisoft, there was some well-founded apprehension.
Ubisoft had revealed some gameplay almost a year ago, showcasing how far they had come with the project. What we saw looked promising, as the studio seems to be making a game for the fans, and the recent gameplay footage at the Ubisoft Forward 2024 showcase could be better than a certain Xbox exclusive!
Starfield’s Combat Mechanics Seemingly Pale in Comparison to Star Wars Outlaws
Starfieldwas teased before Bethesda was acquired by Xbox, during which time it was slated to appear on multiple platforms. However, post-acquisition, only PC and Xbox users have been able to experience the game—an experience that hasn’t been stellar. One of the major points of contention is the combat. While some fans feel it’s the best Bethesda has released, others state it’s a step belowFallout 4.
Well, those looking for a more dynamic space combat experience might want to turn their attention towardsOutlaws. The Ubisoft Forward showcase has shown a fair bit of gameplay regarding the title, and it might be the most we get from the game given that the release date is going to be within this quarter.

The gameplay reveal offered a mix of stealth encounters and a gunfight. The stealth looks pretty standard. Kay Vess, our protagonist, will be able to scurry from cover to cover andinitiate stealth takedowns as long as they are not spotted, skills she may have learned from her mentor Jaylen. Her merqaal companion, Nix, can be used as a sonar, helping the player see enemy locations.
The best thing about the entire gameplay showcase was probably the space combat. Not only, does it look amazing, but it also gives a good idea of what many players wanted fromStarfield. It’s quick, destructive, and fun to look at. Meanwhile,Starfieldis still struggling with the basic combat, so space combat is still a much greater afterthought.
However, Kay is not only adept in the shadows, as when she is spotted, she isn’t afraid to go out guns blazing. Using her hand blaster, she can take down multiple enemies and seek cover behind environmental objects. Some enemies might initiate a grapple encounter, which functions as a quick-time event but can also leave you vulnerable to damage.
Star Wars Outlaws is Intriguing but is Most Likely to Feature Classic Ubisoft Shortcomings
The game will be a treat forStar Warsfans who want more from their favorite franchise. However, if they want to unlock everything the game has to offer, they are going to have to open their wallets. The company has already stated thatthe Jabba the Hutt mission is locked behind a paywall, which stirred controversy among fans.

The issue is that the studio made Jabba the Hutt the face ofOutlaws, and many fans were hyped to meet the slaver in a new setting. So, finding out they needed to pay over and above the asking price of the game was sure to have many people annoyed.
