Tite Kubo’s magnum opusBleachis carving milestones with its reception and popularity. After almost 10 years, the series is back with a bang. From top-tier animation to a well-paced plot, it is a complete treat for the fanbase.

And while it is a top-notch series, it isn’t exempt from pitfalls either. Be it plotholes or inconsistency, Kubo’s series has its fair share of shortcomings. This, however, also extends to its characterization.
Despite its rich lore and backstories, Kubo failed to charter most of it in his manga. One of the key examples of this is the Quincy powers and its association with the protagonist most of which remains wasted.

Above all, though, the inconsistent power scaling is something that has been a burning question. This is especially true for Ichigo Kurosaki’s overpowered strength and abilities despite his stereotypical characterization.
Tite Kubo and the saga of the wasted potential
Tite Kubois a genius when it comes to writing one of the most iconic Shonen series. Decades back his series was hailed as one of the Big 3 among One Piece and Naruto. While it is deemed weak by most, it outshines its contemporaries.
Most importantly, it is evident in its storyline that brings out the deepest yet darkest aspects of society. From death to loss, Kubo enmeshes spirituality with morality through his series. But there’s more to the series than meets the eye.

While it stands out through its portrayal of justice and order, it isn’t divorced from criticism. Like most shonen series,Bleachis plagued with incessantplotholes and irregularities. This is the case with the ever-present lore in the series.
Despite its abundant storyline, the mangaka hasn’t fully explored the extent of it. Be it Soul King’s origins or Aizen’s intel about it, there are several mysteries and unanswered questions. The hero’s powers, too, remain wasted for the most part.

Most Redditorsvouched forthe fact that his powers weren’t fully charted and used in the series.
One of the key criticisms of the series is the irregular power scaling. While the protagonist is multiracial, Kubo does little to expand on it. This also ties in with his writing of the hero as a conventional Shonen protagonist.

Is Ichigo Kurosaki a conventional hero inBleach?
Ichigo Kurosakibears similarities with other Shonen protagonists in the manner of his writing. From his delinquency to his bold and boisterous persona, he redefines edginess and badassery in more ways than one.
But most of all, Kubo wrote the character as a duty-bound elder brother. While he stands out in his mannerisms and nonchalance, the orange-haired protagonist is ultimately written off as a conventional hero.
In retrospect, hispowers and heritageare one such example of this. His multifacetedness serves a bigger purpose in the story. Be it Hollow powers or his Fullbringer abilities, Kubo carved him as a perfect vessel for the Soul King.
Interestingly, though, his nature and abilities make him an overpowered protagonist. And while he bears semblance with the Soul King in terms of his abilities, he isn’t a mere shell.
