Marvel Studios’Daredevil: Born Againis finally arriving just a bit over a month later after years of having kept us waiting. Bringing back the original cast in a different setting and a new set of challenges, fans are all excited to dive back into the brutal world of Hell’s Kitchen and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock.
Also bringing back Jon Berthal’s Punisher, fans believe the character shares a link with one of Marvel’s biggest events: the Blip. And the series needs to address the event given how disappointingly post-Endgameprojects have treated it.

One of the biggest events in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Blip was when in 2023 Bruce Banner snapped his fingers wielding the six Infinity Stones, bringing back every living being who was snapped out of existence by Thanos in 2018. The initial snap randomly wiped out over half the population of the world, including all creatures.

So naturally, after theDefendersuniverse was confirmed to be part of the official MCU timeline, there might have been several characters who would have been snapped out of existence. After seeing the first look ofJon Bernthal‘s Punisher, fans are convinced that he is one of the survivors of the blip.

Frank Castle looks disheveled in thetrailer, with unkempt hair and a messy beard, with a look that shows he is consumed by vengeance. Moreover, he seems not to trustCharlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock despite knowing him, as can be deciphered from the trailer. This can only point toward that he was a victim of the snap and when he came back after the blip, he either lost someone or has been struggling to make peace with the new reality.

PostAvengers: Endgame, the MCU has treated the Blip with severe disappointment despite the potential of the event to craft never-seen-before stories. Its lackluster exploration of one of Marvel’s biggest events and its aftermath has met with severe criticism from fans and critics alike.
However, the upcomingDaredevil: Born Againhas an opportunity to rectify this by grounding its narrative in the raw, human consequence of the universal event. While we do not know for certain whether it will feature the Blip or its aftermath, the show certainly has the ability to show fans what the street-level, grounded heroes of the MCU went through during this upending event.

If the series does delve and lean into this, it can provide a refreshing break from MCU’s tendency to often prioritize storytelling driven by spectacle instead of substance and groundedness.
