For the most part, Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecehas become a cultural phenomenon. The series which has been going on for the last 27 years and counting, has delighted millions of Shonen fans worldwide. After all, the story features Monkey D. Luffy, who embodies the idea of being free and following one’s dreams.

But what makes him really unique is his ability to put a wide smile on the face of his viewers. However, fans were devastated when the Yonko was devastated by the loss of his brother Portgas D. Ace in the Marineford War arc, making him lose his will to fight and eventually blacking out.

Things started to look different for him as he unlocked Gear 5, where some fans believed Oda-Sensei would give Luffy darker power. Thus, making him follow the typical Shonen route followed by anime series of the same genre.

Luffy and Roger share the same dream in One Piece.

Eiichiro Oda Might Be Foreshadowing a Dark Power-Up for Luffy

In recent years, a ton of anime series have been created that have flaunted some of the best anime protagonists that have become quite popular. However, none could come close to matching the popularity that surroundedEiichiro Oda’sMonkey D. Luffy, whom heconsiders to be his ideal son.

Hence, in the immersive and ever-expanding world of Grand Line, the mangaka has given him a unique set of powers, making him a literal God when he uses his Gear 5. However, a fan theory has been looming around the internet, where it is believed that Oda-Sensei might be foreshadowing how this new power-up is gradually changing the Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.

According to an anime enthusiast (@tamirsverse), they shared a YouTube Short on their channel, explaining the manga artist has rarely showcased Luffy crashing out. However, they believe that if it happened in the present storyline, it would be“devastating not only for his enemies but also for himself and everyone of his allies.”

The influencer explained that his next crash out would be different from the one viewers witnessed during the Marineford Saga when he saw Akainu punching a hole in Ace’s chest. This breakthrough was different from the ones shown via Gon fromHunter x Hunteror Itadori Yuji fromJJK,where they go into a fit of rage and“lose control and decimate everything and everyone.”

However, in Marineford, the Emperor of the Sea only felt“utter despair,”leading to a meltdown. The situation will be different in the current saga because after he awakened his Devil Fruit with Gear 5, he is acting somewhat changed.

We Will Never Forgive Eiichiro Oda if The Most Diabolical Zoro Theory Comes True That’s Worse Than Betraying Luffy

The influencer believes the will of his Devil Fruit is “slowly” taking over him. Hence, if he ever has another meltdown, perhaps in the Final War Arc, or if he is too late tosave his grandfather. Then, a truly“demonic version of the JoyBoy”would be designed by Oda-Sensei.

One PieceFans Are Thrilled For Luffy’s Next Dark Power-Up

The idea of a dark power-up has always allured the fans, and much of anime’s memorable moments have been featured using this idea. For instance, in Akira Toriyama’sDragon Ball Z,Goku goes into a fit of rage, unlocking the iconic Super Saiyan Transformation, when he sees Frieza murdering Krillin on Planet Namek.

Thus, when the influencer shared the idea of granting the Straw Hat a greater power than Gear 5, it sounded quite tempting to the ears. The theory made the fans jump with excitement and resonate the theory with a positive notion. The fans commented,

@FORTOONS570 commented,“The moment…the Joyboy…stopped laughing…”

@GozidinoproyFaxedit commented,“You know your cooked when luffy stops smiling and zoro starts smiling”

@Achuidian179 commented,“If a crash were to ever happen to Luffy, Sanji needs to hit the kitchen IMMEDIATELY, or just get a castle full of meat to be served to Luffy”

@lescortdavid commented,“Garp dies luffy crashes out”

@arious1644 commented,“I can imagine the psychotic laughter…”

Since several fan theories have come true in the past, fans will be dearly hoping that this theory of ascending Luffy to even greater power also comes true. Thus, taking the lore ofOne Pieceto even greater heights.
