The plot of the film is set in a dystopian future, where regional forces are mounting resistance against the authoritarian US government. Thetiming of the film’s release has raised a lot of speculationsinceDonald Trumpplans to run for the presidency again this year.
The actor recently appeared onJimmy Kimmel Liveto promote the film. He spoke on a variety of subjects, before making a rather hilarious admission about his run-in with the police. Offerman and his friends unfortunately ended up spending a night in jail as a consequence.
“Some friends and I, we can say this now in California, we were smoking marijuana out behind a community theater late one night, and some flashlights came along the creek where we were hanging out, and we realized it was police. So we began to tiptoe away, and they gave chase, and we wisely ran, uh, and they tackled us. An incredibly tough, uh, diminutive woman, who I think may have been Holly Hunter. I couldn’t tell because she had her boot on my head, and she had her gun on me. So, they tackled us in a parking lot, and it suddenly got incredibly real,”he told the host.

Offerman went on to reveal how there had been a robbery at a restaurant, and the police were suspicious of a bunch of kids running away. They rounded up the actor and his friends and released them the following morning.

Offerman’s role as POTUS has been widely praised by fans and critics alike. However, it has also drawn comparisons between the actor and Trump,causing his colleagues to speak up.

TheFargoactor rubbished the comparisons between his character and the former president. During the premiere of the film, he toldDeadlinethat it was a work of fiction, and he tried his best to bring Garland’s vision to life.
“Honestly, no. When you see the movie, it’s so unattached to anything in modern politics, not only in our country but any country. It’s like doing a play where I’m playing a baseball player, and people say, ‘Did you ever think of your favorite team, the Cubs?’ And I say, ‘No, it’s a brilliant piece of fiction,’”he said.
Garland’s film has united filmgoers, and it has become A24’shighest-grossing film in the opening weekend. The numbers are sure to rise, as positive word-of-mouth brings in more viewers. The film is currently playing in a theater near you.
