Taylor Sheridan is no doubt a brilliant screenwriter and has built up his own little television empire by creating series likeYellowstone,The Mayor of Kingstown,Special Ops:Lioness,Tulsa King,and more. Over all these years of working in the TV industry, Sheridan has given us some of the finest moments of all time and some of the most iconic TV characters of all time. Yet, there seems to be a problem plaguing his work: the problem of repetition.
His latest series,Landmanis no different. Despite its intricate storytelling and an unexplored theme, many believe that Sheridan is milking one of the show’s best relationships to the point of exhaustion.

Taylor Sheridan‘s latest drama,Landman, is set in the world of West Texas oilfields and the politics surrounding them. While there areseveral interesting elements in the show, one of its most interesting aspects is the love story between Jacob Lofland’s Cooper Norris and Paulina Chavez’s Arianna Medina.

While their love story has all the hallmarks of a compelling subplot, their relationship has left many divided and it is not hard to see why. While believe that they are moving on too soon since Arianna is a recent widow who lost her husband, others believe that Sheridan has just been using repetitive themes and scenes between them throughout season one, leaving viewers drained.
Even though the recent events in their lives can be used to forge a tender, emotionally charged connection, their potential relationship, throughout the majority of season one, developed without any ‘progression.’ Though they did end up together by the last episode, the repetitive storytelling displaying the same emotions over and over again, undermined one of the most interesting side stories of the show.
Fans are not fond ofLandman’sArianna-Cooper storyline
While some fans disliked the lack of progression in Arianna and Cooper’s love story, others are not fond of their relationship at all. The main reason is how fast they ended up coming together despite lacking a true emotional bond. Even though they might be designed for each other in the long run, their relationship seems too rushed for the sake of narrative plots.

Moreover, there is the question of Arianna, who pretty recently lost her husband and the father of her child in the most devastating way possible. Despite the huge trauma she received, it seems baffling how quickly she moved on from her dead husband. On the other hand, we have Cooper, who saw three men die and was nearly beaten to death. Their relationship, hence, seems more based on their shared trauma instead of love and attraction.
Many fans even believe she is only with Cooper since she is manipulative and needs a man to live by, making their relationship wholly intentional. It is also possible that she might truly love Cooper since her dead husband Elvio did not seem to care much about her and she herself admitted that she didn’t truly love him.
Ultimately, while Arianna’s journey reflects the messy and uncomplicated nature of human emotions, the rushed and repetitive writing risks alienating fans. And Taylor Sheridan needs to step up and resolve this issue before the next season comes around.
