With an eight-season run, the famed fantasy series is considered one of the most successful franchises in the history of television. Dance portrayed Tywin Lannister, the patriarch of the House Lannister, who concluded his story in the final episode of Season 4. The actor believed had BBC handled the show the first time, it would have never seen the light of day.
If that had been the BBC [British Broadcasting Corporation], they’d have pulled the plug on it immediately, and I was told that there was a time when the BBC were going to be part of the co-production, and thank God they weren’t.
On a more interesting angle, the 78-year-old star criticized the network for thinking they could get a hundred dollars return by spending merely ten dollars. He said he knows a lot of people whose excitement for a project immediately wanes when they find out BBC would manage it.

Dance used to be impressed with BBC productions and thought they had the finest television network in the world.
