Roblox, the online game platform and game creation system, is one of the most popular platforms in the world. This is evident by the number of monthly users of the platform, which is more than 200 million. The platform allows people to develop their own games.
The platform is also used by young developers who are under the age of 18 and develop and publish games. The company has been accused of young developer exploitation, and the studio head of Roblox has now said that the company provides jobs and offers income to them.
Roblox Head Speaks on the Child Exploitation Accusations
For starters,Robloxallows developers to develop games, monetize them, and get paid for their creations via Robux. Players can use Robux on the platform to boost their games to reach a broader audience and also withdraw them in real money. The platform has been accused of exploiting young developers and not providing much growth in terms of revenue.

The Roblox studio head has spoke about this in aninterview with Eurogamerthat was conducted at GDC in late March and said it isn’t exploiting child developers but providing opportunity, which is a “gift.” Stefano Corazza said:
“I don’t know, you can say this for a lot of things, right?”. “Like, you can say, ‘Okay, we are exploiting, you know, child labour,’ right? Or, you can say: we are offering people anywhere in the world the capability to get a job, and even like an income.
Corazza explained with an example, saying that someone 15 years of age, in a slum in Indonesia can create and make money with just a laptop and sustain their life. He further said:
There’s always the flip side of that when you go broad and democratized – and in this case, also with a younger audience.
He added that the average game developer is in their 20s, and there are teenagers, but the company has also hired some teenagers. He also said that from what he’s heard of the developer’s experience,“they didn’t feel like they were exploited!”Instead, they were like,“This is the biggest gift.”
The Majority of the Roblox Creators Are Above 18
Corazza said that the platforms offer creative benefits to the developers, and the payout to the creators distributed every year is nearing a billion dollars, calling it“phenomenal.”In the same interview, a PR representative said that the“vast majority”of developers creating games on the platform are over the age of 18.

However, the number of the above 18 creators was not specified. Corazza also said that the platform allows“millions of kids”to learn coding every month, and creators at the studio are learning Lua scripting, which can help them land jobs in the tech industry.
He concluded that the platform is focusing on“the learning—the curriculum”and is trying to bring people with it and empower them to be professional developers in the industry. Regardless, the payment a developer gets for their creation is only a fraction of what they should receive, and the company needs to address that.
