While CD Projekt RED has officially revealedThe Witcher 4, thereveal trailerdidn’t share any gameplay mechanics or info outside the fact that Ciri will now be the series' new protagonist.

That changes today, as new details regarding the upcoming RPG are making its way out. In a recentvideo interviewwith CDPR’s Game Director Sebastian Kalemba and Executive Producer Gosia Mitrega, the devs shared info about The Witcher 4’s map size and quest density.

Why The Witcher 4 Should Say Goodbye To Geralt

Geralt is an old friend, but it’s time for us to branch out on our own.

The Witcher 4’s Map Size Will Be Similar To The Witcher 3, As CDPR Focuses On Quality Than Quantity

CDPR was asked about the overall scale of The Witcher 4, and whether it was similar to The Witcher 3, and if the studio was aiming for a game that is similar in size and shape to The Witcher 3 or something bigger or a bit more condensed?

Kalemba answered: “That’s a good question. Fun fact: I’ll share with you guys an anecdote. First, before I answer the question, I remember when we’ve been thinking about how much, how many hours you’ll need to, let’s say, finish Hearts of Stone, or Blood and Wine. When we throw the numbers like, five to ten hours maybe, and Blood and Wine, like maybe 10 to 15, and we ended up with 30 hours. So we are not, we don’t want to be kind of a servant to the numbers. You know what I mean? Yeah, the map is definitely more or less the same when it comes to the size. The amount of quests, more or less the same. But again, yeah, the game is going to be big, but also the game, like the ambition of the entire team, is huge. The ambition is huge. So, first and foremost, we want to deliver a super compelling experience. So again, quality over quantity, but definitely what we can promise. Yes. Game is going to be pretty big, right? Comparable to everything we’ve prepared so far, but I cannot tell you if it’s going to be 90%, 85 percent or, you know?”

Witcher 4 Director Teases the Return of Gwent

CD Projekt Red is hinting that the popular card game Gwent will return in The Witcher 4.

As someone who’s played (and loved) The Witcher 3, this is good news. I’d rather CDPR stick to what worked before, rather than make the entire game bigger for its sake. The Witcher 3 had a dense and living open world, and it made the game infinitely better.

The Witcher 4 Ciri

If The Witcher 4 can somehow match the world of The Witcher 3 – and I think they will – then gamers are in for a treat. Never mind if it’s not made to be bigger.

The Witcher 4 has no release window set yet, and we suspect that won’t be nailed down for quite some time. If you’re wondering why Ciri is the protagonist now, read on for CD Projekt RED’s explanation.
