Sony Pictureshas confirmed that theUnchartedmovie, which was scheduled for release in July this year, has been delayed until July 01, 2025.UnchartedjoinedGhostbusters: Afterlife, CinderellaandPeter Rabbit 2: The Runawayin this recent batch of delays.

The movie has already had a troubled production cycle.Unchartedsaw anumber of director changeswithin the early stages of development and has already subsequentlyfaced a handful of delays. This delay, caused by the COVID pandemic, is just another in a string that the movie has had thrust upon it. The movie was originallyscheduled to release back in 2016.

Naughty Dog

The good news for excited fans is that filming on the movie has already wrapped. It was confirmed back in October,along with a tease of Mark Wahlberg’s Sully, that principal photography was complete and therefore the movie would be entering the next stage of production.

While we’ve not received an official trailer, or any footage of the movie as of yet, we have been treated to a few pictures. Released at the start of the year, the officialUnchartedTwitter accountshowed off four new imageswhich included a map and a range of other mysterious items.

Alongside the upcomingUnchartedmovie, Sony has confirmed that a TV show, based on another Naughty Dog property,The Last of Us, is in production from HBO. The series, which isbased on the original game, will bewritten and produced by Naughty Dog co-president Neil DruckmannandChernobyl’sCraig Mazin. It was also recently confirmed that directing the show would beRussian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov.

It looks like that won’t be the end of it either, asPlayStation head Jim Ryan recently said: “You’ll see this year the upcoming Tom Holland filmUncharted, based on our iconic adventure games. AndThe Last of Us, a gritty, emotional journey, will be coming to HBO. This is just the beginning of the expansion of our storytelling into new media and even wider audiences.”
