This week has been a celebration of all thingsDoom. Not only has the series seen its25th anniversary, but the iconic shooter’s co-creator,John Romero, has now also announced a new chapter for the original game.

Going under the title ofSigil, this new chapter is the unofficial successor toUltimate Doomand picks up immediately following the events of the 90s' Thy Flesh Consumed levels. It will feature nine new single-player levels which will see players blasting through hordes of cacodemons, imps, lost souls, and other classic monsters from the original game with a familiar array of weapons including the plasma gun, rocket launcher, and the now iconic shotgun. There will also be nine new Deathmatch levels included.

Interestingly, to runSigilplayers will need to own a registered 1993 version of the originalDoom. From here,Sigilcan be added as a free megawad.

The new chapter can also be picked up as via Limited Run Games who is releasing two gorgeous and well detailed big box physical editions of the game. Thestandard editionpacks a floppy disk themed USB containing the megawad, the game’s soundtrack on CD, and a pair of stickers. The Beast edition will then feature all of the above along with the dual-case CD being switched out for a booklet style case which also features behind the scenes information regarding the making of the originalDoom.

To sweeten the deal,the Beast editionalso features aSigilt-shirt, a coin sporting a demonic symbol, a pewter statue of Romero’s head on a pike as seen inDoom II, and a print signed by the box art’s illustrator Christopher Lovell who’s known for his work with such rock and metal acts as Misfits, Children of Bodom, and Suicide Silence. All of this is then neatly contained within an enormous box that has been personally signed by John Romero.
