Gyomei’s backstory is one filled with compassion and tragedy. As the caretaker of 9 orphans, he raised them all like his own family. However, one of the children went out past curfew and in a bid to save his own life, bartered the other children’s lives. Gyomei was incapable of saving any of them.

To his further devastation, the child who survived blamed the Stone Hashira. He’s lived with the guilt of their lost lives his entire life, despite defending them to the best of his abilities and with just a rock. However, his humanity still hadn’t been shaken by this act of betrayal and all of his grief.

Gyomei might be overlooked but he’s irreplaceable

His unshaken morals andstrength are often overlookedfor flashier personalities or beloved characters, such as Tanjiro, Rengoku, or even Tengen Uzui. While Tanjiro often gives the emotional anime typical dialogues, Gyomei’s kindness is subtle but more impactful.
