Even if you haven’t yet got stuck into Naughty Dog’s biggest and newest titleThe Last of Us Part IIyet, you most likely would have heard that the game has our loyal companions scattered throughout its levels. The studio certainly hasn’t held back in producing some top tier animation that’s almost as impressive as its environments. Naughty Dog’s lead animator Jeremy Yates has taken to Twitter to showcase one of the games real-life dogs in action and my heart can’t take that I may have killed it (in-game, obviously.)Yates has recentlyposted some shotsof horses being motion captured forThe Last of Us Part 2that was pretty incredible looking, almost like they were part of some war horse movie galloping into battle. As a fun fact, those very same horses are apparently multitalented and have also been used in Sucker Punch’s upcoming title,Ghost of Tsushima. If that wasn’t enough to tug at your heartstrings, he also posted a clip of one of thedogs in their little motion capture suitdoing some jumps. It makes me sad that I could have killed that very same dog in the game as look how cute it is! Yes, I know it’s a video game and it’s not real. That’s not the point - shut up.

Yates followed up the jumping doggie clip by another jumping doggie that was actually used for deer galloping. I guess it would have been too much of a risk to get an actual deer in the studio. Regardless, I think I may have found my new career change: dog handler for motion capture and doggie suit fitter. As I make my way throughThe Last of Us Part IIfor the second time in New Game +, I’m honestly doing my best not to kill any dogs but man, those little buggers are savage but you certainly wouldn’t know it from that motion capture clip.
