FromSoftware is officially developing a standalone co-op version ofElden Ring.Elden Ring Nightreign, one of the most shocking announcements at The Game Awards 2024, is certain to surprise fans of FromSoftware’s renowned Soulsborne genre. The developer has never created a three-player rogue-like PvE game like this one before, and it’s safe to assume that it will raise a lot of eyebrows for sure.

The world ofElden Ring, created by George R. R. Martin, has enthralled players and experienced great success ever since it first appeared. The game, which was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, and itsShadow of the ErdtreeDLC have distinguished themselves from the competition in a number of ways, from quickly selling millions of copies to winning numerous awards. However, it seems the tables are about to turn above FromSoftware’s head.
Elden Ring Nightreign– A new beginning for FromSoftware
Three-player cooperative gameplay, improved movement features like wall-climbing and flying spectral animals, and what appears to be some parry mechanics taken directly from Sekiro are all features ofElden Ring Nightreign, a new adventure set in theElden Ringuniverse.
It must be a strong force because the environmental threat resembles a wall of purple fire that is blazing and even seems to be smothering a site of grace. Fortunately, the“seekers of redemption”can soar through the skies with the aid of animal helpers; one hero even has wings that allow him to soar before crashing back down on the enemies below. There are plenty of foot soldiers to battle alongside the massive bosses that we have all grown to know and love inNightreign. Prior to facing the last big bad enemy, it appears that you will need to work with your team to clear levels while the map gradually gets smaller.

Elden Ring Nightreign: How Powerful Will the Nameless King Be In Elden Ring?
Although the exact time in the Lands Between timeline is unknown, the trailer did feature a ton of gameplay. It looks likeElden Ring, but instead of the slower, more deliberate fighting inErdtreeandElden Ring, it places more of an emphasis on violent, flippy-dippy martial arts maneuvers.
Along with skills and equipment that players can use to personalize their characters after they die, the announcement also mentioned a map that is always changing and getting smaller every day. All things considered, it sounds like FromSoftware addedElden Ring, along with a dash ofOverwatchhero classes andFortnitecooperative gameplay into the blender to extractNightreign.

Isn’tElden Ring Nightreignreally a live-service title?
The director ofElden Ring Nightreign, Junya Ishizaki, explained in an interview withIGNthat the upcoming FromSoftware game does not use a live-service model. He disclosed the nature of the game, stating that players will get“the complete package,”with all features“unlockable out of the gate.”Notably, despite recent warnings in this genre, Ishizaki explained why the Japanese studio chose to create a multiplayer game.
He stated,“We don’t tend to look at the industry and base our game design or our concerns on what’s going on in that sort of more general sense.”He went on to say that theElden Ringdevelopers think that fans will “share in that experience and hopefully enjoy it as well” as long as the team is creating something it enjoys playing and is passionate about.

However, seeing the recent trends in the market, it’s looking very likely that FromSoftware will introduce live-service features like micro-transactions and battle passes, along with all the lucrative in-game rewards. Despite being devasted withConcord, Sony is againgearing up for another live-service title in theHorizonuniverse. So, despite heavy congestion in the live-service title, companies are jumping into that field. And if FromSoftware ever forgets its roots and shifts its focus from Soulslike titles to live-service games, then it will be an end for the long-hailed company.
Hidetaka Miyazaki’s 1 Game Will be Worth Billions: Should Elden Ring Fans be Worried if Sony Buys FromSoftware’s Parent Company
In addition to bringing the highly regarded fantasy IP into a new genre,Nightreign, the firstElden Ringproject not directed by Miyazaki, will also carry out a new director’s vision. In any event, FromSoftware, which iscurrently being considered for a potential acquisition by Sony, would like to see the upcomingElden Ringgame capitalize on the success of its predecessors and attain comparable levels of success.
