Zack Snyder is known for his stylistic vision and his commitment to his source materials. Snyder brings a sense of realism to his gritty storytelling, usually producing supernatural dramas that end up running well over the 2-hour mark. This seems to have been a common complaint that fans have when it comes to the length of his films.
Fans would be glad to hear that that criticism is taken care of in his latest offerings, the twoRebel Moonfilms that the director has produced for Netflix. Speaking with Collider, theWatchmendirector opened up about the editing process of the film, and how he and his editor figured out the right cuts for his new space opera IP.

Zack Snyder wanted the film to be close to two hours
Speaking toCollider, Snyder opened up about his philosophy for the film’s editing. The director said:
“[I] had really wanted to keep the movie close to two hours. That was like a thing I really wanted to do. I just felt like these two movies together, if they’re both about two hours each, and I think movie two is even shorter, it’s like an hour and 54 minutes — it’s like, I think, one of the first movies I’ve made that’s under two hours, which is incredible — that was the sort of thing I had in my mind was that I really wanted to keep it close to two hours.”
The director seemed very keen on keeping the film as close to two hours as possible, which is in stark contrast to the other films that he has published. Snyder has routinely produced films that run for well over two hours, which incurred the wrath of certain fans, who asked the director to not attempt to reconcile the blockbuster model with his auteurship.

What is Rebel Moon about?
Originally a pitch for an R-ratedStar Warsfilm, Snyder had been playing around with the idea for quite some time, before Disney even acquiredStar Wars. However, since the IP’s acquisition by the House of Mouse, Snyder benched the project until after his run-in with WB and the DCEU.Rebel Moonis a space opera, inspired byStar Wars, but more mature than anything the latter IP has ever done.
Snyder has expressed his interest in developing theRebel Moonas an IP, similar to Marvel,Star WarsandThe Boys. The idea here is to develop a sprawling shared universe that has films, television series and other spin-offs. The 2 films that were shot back to back,A Child of FireandThe Scargiver, will be the first two entries in the franchise, and will also serve as a litmus test for the IP.
