WithIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, Troy Baker took the mantle of Dr Jones from Harrison Ford. Baker is known for playing Booker DeWitt inBioShockand Joel Miller inThe Last of UsWith a CV like that, you’d think he wouldn’t have had any issues bagging the role for Dr. Jones.
However, it wasn’t an easy task. In aninterview, Baker opened up about his challenges and revealed that even Howard was skeptical of him to the point he“rolled his eyes”when Baker was first presented.
He was like: ‘No, it’s a challenge. That’s the standard’.
When Baker initially auditioned for the role, Howard felt that his voice might distract players. So, Howard auditioned Troy alongside other actors, and the final decision was made through a“blind taste test”by the audience.
Everyone unsurprisingly chose Troy, whichHoward considered not just to bea compliment but a challenge for securing this role. It’s not a surprise that Howard went to these lengths to developIndiana Jones and the Great Circle, considering it’s a franchise that he dearly loves.

At The Game Awards 2024, Howard and Baker were paid a special visit by Ford himself, whoofferedsome words to the duo.
While you’re on your feet, let’s give a big round of applause to these two guys for The Great Circle. I think this guy [Troy Baker] did a great job. If I’d known he was so good, I would’ve done it myself!
It’s the highest praise any actor portraying Indy could’ve received since Harrison has always stated that he doesn’t like any other person taking up the character’s role. Back in 2019, hestatedthat nobody else is ever going to be Indiana Jones, and when he is gone, Indy will be gone as well.
Later in the show, Ford went ahead and gave the Best Performance award toSenua’s Saga: HellBlade 2‘s Melina Juergens, who became the first person to win it twice.
