Actress Lady Gaga is playing the role of Harley Quinn in the upcomingJoker: Folie à Deux, a sequel to the 2019 blockbusterJoker, starring Joaquin Phoenix. In the film, Gaga plays the love interest of Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck. She discussed her role during a recent interview. However, the singer-actress admitted to having a very personal inspiration for the role.
Gaga revealed that she drew inspiration from real-life tragedies she faced to portray the complex character who shares an obsessive and deadly relationship with the titular villain. Something really bad happened to me when I was a kid and I think that made me create a persona. To answer your question really honestly that actually really informed my character.
Gaga made the above statement, explaining that Harley Quinn is a product of a broken place within Lee similar to how her traumatic childhood experience led to her creating the Lady Gaga persona.
