Bethesda Softworks' next big hitStarfieldmay be due for its own showcase later this week. The speculation was kicked off by Video Games Chronicle owner and editor Andy Robinson, who on Friday made apost on Twitterclaiming “I hear the announcement for the Starfield showcase is imminent,” adding in a response shortly after, “As in, soon.”
The space exploration game, which is currently bound only for Xbox Series X|S and PC, still has no official launch date, although its official support page is promising it forthe first half of this yearfollowing an update from early January. While the developers were very active with putting out promotional materials throughout 2022, including producing aseries of in-house interviewswith key team memberslike game director Todd Howard, the public relations-heavy campaign seemed to have ground to a halt at the start of 2023, and the development team has been much more tight-lipped.

That may all change in the not-so-distant future. Multiple sources are reporting a showcase for the game is just days away, although no one is saying specifically when just yet. Reliable gaming insider Rebs Gamingmade a Twitter announcementon Saturday, claiming that a major announcement would be coming next (now this) week. Also, aspointed out by The Gamer, theXbox Two podcaston Friday had made a similar report.
At this point, no one in the know seems to be saying anything concrete regarding the announcement, other than that there will be one and it will be coming this week. One key piece of information that fans are still missing is the release date, with the current window indicating it will be coming out sometime between now and the end of June.
Additionally, since Starfield is currently planned to be available only for Xbox Series X|S and PC, this could be the best time for a major console-exclusive announcement. Nintendo and Sony have both hosted major announcement streams this month (Nintendo Direct and State of Play, respectively), and all three console developers seem to beskipping out on this year’s E3. Additionally, many game enthusiasts have been critical of the Xbox brand for not bringing any major exclusive titles to the table in 2022 while PlayStation had bothHorizon: Forbidden WestandGod of War: Ragnarok, so Bethesda may take the opportunity to give Xbox some clout before the month is out.
