Earlier this week,Bethesdareleased a brand-newStarfieldupdate, finally adding in the highly-requested city maps feature. Unfortunately, the update is currently only available in Steam Beta, with a full release scheduled for May 15th.
But for players who have been checking out the update on Steam, they’ve got nothing but good things to say about it. While the update adds more than just new city maps, it’s definitely becoming the standout feature of the update. Shortly after the update was released on Steam, fans took to Reddit to say thatBethesda “cooked” with the newest patch. Now, fans have been blown away yet again after finding out that city maps are rendered in real time.

Starfield Has A Secret Reference To The Konami Code, If You Can Ignore That It’s Wrong
An attempt was made…
Over on the Starfield subreddit, aReddit userhas been bringing attention to the detail included in Starfield’s new map system. “The new map system appear to be dynamic and rendered in real-time: It shows exactly what your ship looks like and everything you place in your outpost,” the user said.
When asked about the new map system during a recentreveal video, Starfield’s Art Director Istvan Pely said that the new maps would make things “a lot easier to navigate.” He went on to explain that players can now see the terrain, all the detail on the terrain, trees, rocks, all the structures in the loading zone, and more.

But players clearly weren’t anticipating the map to render custom ships and outposts in real-time. This means that no matter how you design your ship or outpost, the map will display them both as they appear in-game. After begging Bethesda for months to add in a more detailed map system, fans are blown away at just how detailed this new system is.
“Got to hand it to Bethesda, this was a huge miss at release and they fixed it. They didn’t do the minimum, just city maps. Good stuff. One of Starfield’s minuses just changed to a plus,“one Reddit user said.Another saidthat the new maps were “WAY” more than they anticipated.

Starfield’s 1.11.33 update is available now in Steam Beta and will be released for Xbox Series X|S on May 15th. If you want to find out all of the other additions included in the update, check out thefull patch notes.
