Earlier this week,Bethesdareleased a fresh patch update for the studio’s latest space RPG,Starfield. Although the update is only available in Steam Beta, it’s already being praised by the community for increasing PC performance by more than 50 frames per second for some players.
Update 1.9.67 will be released officially in the coming weeks, but Steam Beta participants can get their hands on it right now. Sadly, there are still no quality-of-life improvements that were previously promised by Bethesda, such as city maps, new ways to travel, and new gameplay options, but there are some massive graphical improvements and bug fixes, such as added support for AMD FSR3 and Intel XeSS.

Other important fixes include a change to how FormIDs are freed when loading saves. This means that for those of you who have encountered stability issues when loading saves where you have visited many locations, you should see some drastic improvements. There are a handful of other fixes included in update 1.9.67, which you’re able to read about in theofficial patch notes.

But arguably the biggest addition comes in terms of performance, which is receiving rave reviews from players. Aposton the Starfield subreddit called the performance boost in the update “crazy” and a “game changer.” The user explained that they are using an RX 5700XT and were previously pulling around 40 FPS whilst in New Atlantis. But following yesterday’s update, the user now gets around 90 FPS. They also praised the FormID fix, confirming that it had rectified the issue.
“I thought people were exaggerating when they talked about the performance boost in the beta, but no, I went from 30 to 70-80 fps at 1440p,” Reddit userEastWild0said

Other users were in agreeance, asZewer1993said that Bethesdas had implemented FSR really well, with their RX 6900 XT now achieving 165 FPS, a big increase from their previous 70 FPS.
While there are a plethora of players praising the massive performance boost, there were also plenty of users expressing their disappointment with the 30 FPS cap on Xbox Series X and S. “Nice, another thing we aren’t getting in Xbox,” one user said, while userSithPickles2020simply said, “cries in Xbox.”

Xbox users won’t be treated to any drastic performance improvements with the update, but there are some important stability improvements and bug fixes to look forward to. But there’s no word from Bethesda on when the update will be released officially.
