When you enter Jemison, you’ll see that it’s part of the United Colonies, the governing body of certain star systems while the other major space government that you’ll inevitably run into is the Freestar Collective. The Freestar Collective is a bit different compared to the United Colonies and there’s a lot of information to cover for them.
What Is The Freestar Collective?
One of the two major interstellar governments, the Freestar Collective controls the following star systems: Cheyenne, Volii, and Narion. Their capital is Akila city in the Cheyenne system, one you’ll probably visit with Sam Coe during the main quest. Akila City is one of the bigger cities you’ll see in Starfield, and there are a lot of side quests and miscellaneous things you can do here. Besides that, there’s also Neon, a major city that comes under the Freestar Collective. They seem to be a bit more relaxed compared to the United Colonies, but they’re still one of the strongest forces in the settled systems, and you can evenjoin their ranks as a Freestar Ranger, their official elite police force.
History Of The Freestar Collective
The Freestar Collective was founded by Solomon Coe, an ancestor of Sam Coe from Constellation. There have been two major wars that the Freestar Collective has participated in, both against the United Colonies.
The first war was kicked off in the year 2194 when the Freestar Collective suspected that the United Colonies were trying to annex Narion, which led to the Narion War. The battles between them persisted till the year 2216 when both sides agreed to a peace treaty and a ceasefire.

A second war was fought on a disagreement regarding the former treaty about how the Freestar Collective was not allowed to expand past three star systems, and this one was particularly brutal. It was known as the Colony War, which lasted between 2308 and 2311 and resulted in one of the biggest space battles in history. Ultimately, the Freestar Collective managed to win.
The victory ushered in another peace treaty that has lasted up until present time and even saw major commanders of the UC tried and executed for their war crimes. While it seems that peace has continued since then, there are still some major tensions and frustrations between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective.
The Freestar Rangers
The Freestar Rangers is a division of the Freestar Collective that serves as its elite police force and brings down justice upon those who wrong the people of the FC. They’re one of the few people left in the systems that legitimately want to do good work and protect civilians in case of a threat.you’re able to join their cause by simply following the main questlineand joining Sam Coe to go to Akila City, where you can interrupt a bank robbery. You can then talk to Emma at the bar and can continue as a ranger from there.There are some great rewardsand an entertaining quest line for joining the Freestar Rangers, so it’s highly recommended to join early on.
