Stardew Valleycreator Eric Barone has built a one-man empire with his hit indie title, and fans of his farm and life sim have a tendency tohang on his every tweet. That trend doesn’t seem to be letting up, as he’s recently shared the tiniest sliver of information about the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update coming on March 19, and fans are already going nuts over the news.

Specifically, the newly released information this time aroundcenters on fruit trees. After the next update releases, players will be able to receive a fruit sapling whenever they chop down a fully grown, adult fruit tree.

Stardew Valley: 10 Best Characters, Ranked

Stardew Valley is full of charming characters you may meet throughout your cozy journey. This list breaks down the very best in the game.

The Significance Of Fruit Trees

While that might not seem like earth-shattering news, it’s actually a pretty big game changer if you’re a player who likes to be constantly redecorating the landscape of your farm, as is a common hobby among Stardew Valley’s fan base. Stardew Valley operates on a calendar that encompasses four seasons, each of which lasts four in-game weeks.

There will still be some drawbacks to chopping down the adult trees.

Stardew Valley Fruit Trees

Fruit tree seeds are by far among the most expensive in the game, and each tree takes a full season to grow. Each fruit tree will yield its type of fruit several times during one specific season (unless they’re placed inside a greenhouse, in which case, they’ll drop fruit throughout the year), and the fruit they produce not only sells for a large amount of gold, but can also be used in a variety of cooking recipes or given as gifts to Pelican Town’s various residents.

For these reasons, cutting down a fruit tree prior to this update would result in a huge potential loss of money as well as requiring a significant chunk of time to allow for a new tree to regrow, so the update will likely make changing your landscaping a lot more hassle-free.

There will still be some drawbacks to chopping down the adult trees, however. While Barone confirmed in replies to his fans on X that the purpose of the change is to allow players more freedom in moving their trees around, they shouldn’t expect chopping one down to be an instant fix. Per his replies, the trees will still take some time to grow, though presumably not an entire season, as fruit tree seeds take. Additionally, if the tree you’re cutting down had been producing high-quality fruit, you should expect it to take some time before the sapling that replaces it to reach that quality level again.

Hanging On ConcernedApe’s Every Word

Barone has an enigmatic presence on social media. Although he’s still working on his second game,Haunted Chocolatier, he’s recentlyredirected his focus back to Stardew Valley, a mega-popular indie game which he created all by himself and regularly releases content updates for at no cost to his players, making himsomething of a video game folk hero.

He also uses his X (formerlyTwitter) account almost exclusively to leak out little bits of information, with his last update before this most recent one (released on March 6) dispelling player concerns and guaranteeing that the upcoming update won’t adversely affect players' save files already in progress.
