Back in May, DualShockers highlighted theStar Trek Online: Rise of Discoveryupdate that brought in newStar Trek: Discoverythemed content into the long running MMO as well as some other quality of life improvements. As was previously promised by Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment,Star Trek: Rise of Discoverycame to the console versions of the game for free today. You can check out the update’s launch trailer below, which highlights some of the new characters and missions.
The biggest draw ofStar Trek Online: Rise of Discoveryis that its adds two new missions featuring Gabriel Lorca and Ellen Landry from Star Trek Discovery, with both Jason Issacs and Rekha Sharma reprising their respective roles for the game. One mission, titledThe Plausibility of the Possible, sees players helping Landry and Lorca when the U.S.S. Buran is attacked. The other mission,Impossibility of Reason, has players help Ellen Landry rescue Gabriel Lorca after he is stranded on an icy moon. Tier 6 reputation has also been added.
If you followed the expansion’s PC launch though, you already knew all of that. Thankfully, Perfect World Entertainment also detailed some console exclusive even forStar Trek Onlineas well as the game’s convention appearances for the rest of 2019 today. Between July 2 and October 4, exclusive Tardigrade Combat Pet and Assault Drone Vanity Pet color variants will be available to PS Plus and Xbox Gold members, as are three Master Keys. As for events, Cryptic Studios plans on revealingStar Trek Online’snext major update at Star Trek Las Vegas 2019 during a panel; then, at theSan Francisco Giants' Star Trek Nighton August 26 will have aStar Trek Onlinedeveloper meet up and a Captain’s Chair photo opportunity based on the game.
