The first episode ofSquid Game‘s second season dove into the character’s back story, who made a huge splash being in just a couple of scenes of the show. Being a seemingly minor character played by a celebrated personality like Gong Yoo also played into the intrigue that developed around the character, which the show delivered on big time.

The Salesman was Gong Yoo’s first foray into a psychotic villain, and fans are delighted

The Salesman has been revealed to be a part of the Squid Game operation for quite some time, starting out as a low-level guardsman who was burning the bodies of dead contestants. The character was then recognized by the organization, who gave him a gun as he advanced through the ranks.

After executing his own father, the Salesman realized that his lack of guilt made him perfect for the job. Rising through the ranks, he made it to the post of Recruiter, who would bring in desperate candidates to participate in the game.

Fans are very taken by the character and his motivations, which have had an impact on the fandom. The character might have become one of the most hated villains in the show, but Gong Yoo cannot receive enough praise for his performance.

Fans have not only taken to Reddit to discuss Gong Yoo’s brilliant performance but there has also been a lot of praise for the character on X. A truly vile character, that essentially believes in cleansing desperate people by force, the actor has cemented himself as one of the most interesting villains in Netflix’s K-drama canon.

The Salesmanmight have been a breakout character this seasonofSquid Game, but there is a lot of criticism about what the show set out to do. While people are completely on board with the show’s sophomore outing, there are some who believe that the show did not need a second season at all, given that there seemed to be no need for a continuation for the show, despite the cliffhanger that Season 1 ended on.
