When Hwang Dong-hyuk-created Netflix showSquid Gamehit the streamer, the global audience was in awe witnessing a marvel with astounding thrill as the narrative progressed since the first episode. Following the grand reception of the season 1, Netflix renewed the show for its season 2 run.

Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun is returning to the second season of the show with several co-stars from the first season. Many new faces are booked for the upcoming season as well however, their roles are yet to be disclosed. Now, as per a new report the second season might land on the streamer sooner than previously expected.

Lee Jung-jaeis all set to reprise his Seong Gi-hun role in the second season run at Netflix’sSquid Game. Alongside Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun’s Front Man who serves as the leader of the masked staff behind the game; detective Hwang Jun-ho who sneaks into the game looking for his brother (played by Wi Ha-jun); and Gong Yoo’s the Recruiter, are all set to return.

Joining the returnees, several other new faces are booked for the show as well.Unlockedstar Yim Si-wan will join a roster of new actors in the show including Kang Ha-neul (The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure), Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home),  Park Sung-hoon (The Glory), Jo Yu-ri,  Yang Dong-geun (Yaksha: Ruthless Operations).Be Melodramatic, Move to Heavenstar Kang Ae-sim alongside Lee David (The Fortress), Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home), Choi Seung-hyun (Tazza: The Hidden), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon) and Won Ji-an (D.P.) are also joining the cast in the forthcoming season.

Hwang Dong-hyukwill direct and executive all of Season 2 following his Emmy win for his outstanding work in the first season of the show. As per new reports, The upcoming season may hit the streamer in 2024.

The new faces joining the show reflect the fact that the upcoming season will take surprising twists and turns following the premise of the first season. Gi-hun survives the deadly game making it to the end of the show which ended in a cliffhanger involving the character. He is conflicted with the classic hero’s dilemma in the final episode of the previous season dwelling on the decision of whether to move on with his life with his daughter or put an end to the deadly game. Speaking withThe Hollywood ReporterDong-hyuk addressed how the forthcoming season will continue the premise of Gi-hun’s storyline.

“Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next. There will naturally be a flow of events that will lead all the way to the end of the season. I can’t share any details yet, but you know that Seong Gi-hun has become a totally new person by the end of season one, so season two is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character”

As of now, it is hard to assume a solid storyline for the upcoming season but certainly, the surroundings of the characters suggest how certain aspects are set to continue.
