Square Enix hastrademarkedNieRin Japan. The trademark was registered on November 29 and was made public on December 17. While no official announcement has been made yet by Square Enix, this hints at new developments for the game’s 10th anniversary in 2020, and maybe we’ll get a remaster. Thanks toGame’s Talkfor pointing out the trademark registration.

As you already know, a teaser website for the 10th anniversary of theNieRseriesopened up in early December. For now, only goods andconcertsaround the worldhave been announced, with no new game-related development in sight.

Nier

However, as I’ve mentioned in the past, I believe it’s highly likely we’ll hear about a new game or aNieRremaster at E3 2020 on June 9-11. SeeingNieR Automatawas announced at E3 2015, I’m expecting a similar announcement to be happening this year for the 10th anniversary.

If a remaster or remake of the firstNieRgame will happen, it’ll also be interesting to see whether it’ll be based onNieR Gestaltor the Japan-exclusiveNieR Replicant. Both games had a different protagonist and slight differences. Most notably,NieR Gestalt’sprotagonist was the father of the character Yonah, whileNieR Replicant’s protagonist was her brother. I’d personally preferNieR Replicant,as a weeb.In any case, I hope that following upNieR Automata,Akihiko Yoshida will be handling the character design again in the future of the series.

PS4

In any case, we’ll be sure to tell you as soon as possible when we learn more, so stay tuned on DualShockers.
