Chapter Abilities
In this chapter, Mio and Zoe share the same abilities. As super soldiers fighting for humanity, they wield dual energy pistols and can collect upgrades throughout the story.
This chapter’s mechanic mainly revolves around these pistols, as you can use them toshoot at enemies, press buttons, and solve puzzles.

These energy pistols haveunlimited ammo,so instead of reloading, they have aheat gauge that will fill up and require a short while to cool down.
Later in the story, you’ll also gain upgrades to your weapons and armor, allowing you to traverse new areas and solve complex puzzles.

The Dropship
You both spawn in a dropship, which blows up soon after you bothjump off and skydive into the enemy base.
All you need to do is skydive into an active war zone andavoid exploding debris and ships. You’ll get to witness a majestic sight combined with an amazing synthesized score before you enter an open pipe while avoiding going splat on slow-turning wheels and walkways.

You’ll then dive into a pool of water where you’ll slide down more pipes and go deep underwater.Open the massive metal door with your partner, and you’ll enter the next subchapter.
Infiltration
Swim up to the surface. Two platforms are floating on the water where you can orient yourselves to your surroundings.
Climb up on the ladder, and you’re introduced to the core part of this chapter: your guns. You’ll findcolor-coded panels that match your armor, indicating who needs to shoot them to fill up a gauge.

Since Zoe’s armor is blue, you’ll need to use her guns to shoot blue circles, while Mio shoots red triangles.
Shoottwo blue panels, then two red panelsto open up a wall and platform to run on. Climb up the ladder.
There’s a thick door in your way, locked by a pair of blue and red panels. You’ll need tofill up both gauges with your partner together to unlock the door. There will be more of these throughout the chapter.
After a cutscene between Mio and Zoe,walk along the platform and drones will appear with panels for you to shoot, which brings them down and allows you to jump across some vats of acid.
You’ll then need to use good timing to run underneath a hydraulic press before it crushes you. Then, navigate a twisting tower of spinning panels to reach a hanging platform where you’ll need toshoot both panels simultaneously to release the pipe lids.
Grapple into the tunnels, and you’ll encounter sentry turrets at the end of either tunnel. Defeat them and proceed onwards.
You’ll find a terminal that displays a holographic model of the mech facility, which shows you your current location.
You’ll enter a massive silo.Shoot the first two panels to extend some spinning platforms, which you’re able to grapple and swing from.
Jump off onto the nearest platform and onto an elevator, which you can then get on top of the spinning platforms.
There will be some enemies, but they’re easy to defeat if you focus your fire on them.
Run to a platform on the next level, and you’ll find another lift with alternating panels that you’ll need to shoot to bring it down. Jump on it and let it carry you to the next door.
You’ll then learn the mechanics of the next encounter, which requires you toshoot two locks before your partner shoots the core to open up the shielding that blocks your way.
Activate the terminals to begin a miniboss fight, which looks like a mechanized lawnmower with buzzsaws for hands, which looks oddly similar to the Death Machine inFinal Fantasy 7…
It’ll attack you by dashing at you, or getting close and slashing at you with its saws. You can either avoid the mech’s attacks by dodging, or using the grapple point as a quick escape.
First, shoot it and whittle its health down, which will cause it to activate a color-coded barrier. You’ll need todetonate the core that matches the color of the mech’s shields to deactivate it, which will stun it for a brief moment for you to deplete its health.
For example, if the mech has a blue shield, you’ll need Mio to shoot off the locks to open up a blue core.Let the boss get close, and use Zoe’s guns to shoot the core, blowing it up and taking down its shield. Do the opposite for red shields.
Once you defeat the miniboss, you may take the elevator up and begin a cutscene, where you’ll move on to the next subchapter and acquire some upgrades.
Gun Upgrade
You’ll get your first upgrade, which isa sticky grenade that punches holes through colored shields.
Use the alternate fire button (left trigger for controllers) to shoot the grenade, which sticks to any shield corresponding to your color. Press it again to detonate the grenade, leaving a circular hole in the shield that slowly shrinks.
Open the shield protecting the door and shoot the panel. Once the door opens, and you enter the next room, a singular mech appears and engages you with its own shields.
Deplete its shield with your grenade and whittle down its health. This type of mech will chase you with its shield down, charging up an AOE attack that replenishes its shield.Rinse and repeat until it’s destroyed.
Proceed and you’ll arrive at a small arena, where a squad of mechs appear to fight you.To avoid getting overwhelmed by their numbers, focus on one mech at a time.
Alternatively, if you’re experienced at shooters, you may divide and conquer and pop the shield of any mech you can find.
You’ve survived the mech onslaught, now it’s time to keep moving. Climb up the platforms, and you’ll come across a door for you to unlock.
Through the door is a pathway composed of forcefields, where you’ll encounter a mech whose sole purpose is to roll out bowling bombs, whichchase you relentlessly to blow you up, killing you instantly.
The only way to get rid of those bombs is topop the forcefields below you and dump them into the pit,but be careful to not accidentally drop your partner to their doom.
The safest strategy is toalternate between who shoots the panel and who dumps the bombs.
For example, Zoe can get rid of the bombs while Mio shoots the red panel. Once the panel’s filled up, Zoe can then switch with Mio and shoot the blue panel.
Once that mech is destroyed, proceed onward and run across three hanging walls, andbe careful of the hydraulic press in the middle.
Navigate your way through the facility, and you’ll discovertwo levitating discs for you to ride on.You can jump on those discs and over some laser walls, andyou’ll reach a lid that you’ll have to shoot and unlock with your guns.
Grind the rails and you’ll encounter a group of mechs. Defeat them and press on.
While on the rails, alternate between shooting the shields, and keep grinding until you arrive at the next subchapter.
Toxic Tumblers
Do some platforming on some tumblers, and you’ll arrive at a split path. To your left is the path ahead, andacross another set of tumblers is the"Kites" substory, which you’ll need to complete to earn the"Bookworms" achievement/trophy.
Once you unlock the locks to continue, you’ll reach a combat encounter where you’ll fight more of those lawnmower mechs.
The easiest way to complete this encounter is todrop the mechs by punching a hole through the force field floor.Finish this encounter and unlock the door to continue.
You’ll find a parkour section where you’ll need to wall-run together whileshooting panels to reveal force fields that you’ll need to pop with your grenades.
Do some more platforming, and you’ll reach a door that drops you down a long path populated byforce field bubbles that can shield you from acid showers.
You’ll need toopen up the force field with the corresponding grenade and enter the bubble before the acid can reach you.
The acid rain will also change the color of every bubble, so make sure toalternate who detonates their grenades.
Make your way through the acid rain, and you’ll eventually reach an elevator that takes you up to the next subchapter.
Factory Entrance
The elevator will take you deeper into the factory, where you’ll need to do some platforming first. You’ll find some grapple points blocked by some force fields.
To complete this, shoot Zoe’s grenade first and detonate it, while Mio launches and detonates her grenade on the next forcefield.
With both forcefields open, use that window to grapple through to the other side.
You’ll then find a door blocked by a lock, which has three shielded nodes on each side.
What you’ll need to do is toshoot your grenade on the yellow nub, which is positioned right in the middle of the nodes.
Detonating your grenade will bring down all three shields. You’ll need to bring down all six shields at once to open the door.
Do some more platforming and avoid green lasers–or rather, you should avoidALLlasers.
After a brief cutscene, you’ll be ambushed by two hovercrafts that shoot hard-hitting bullets.
Defeat them, and one of them will bring down a pipe for you to jump on.Shoot the panels (while standing on your corresponding platforms) and continue to navigate the jumping puzzles.
You’ll eventually arrive at some poles that are protected by some green laser grids.Climb up the poles while avoiding the lasers, then grapple and wall-run to the next section, entering the next subchapter.
Factory Exterior
Unlock the gate with your grenades, and you’ll begin your climb up a series of thick pipes, where a giant saw slides down to rid itself of intruders.
Hook onto the nearest grapple hook to your leftto avoid getting sliced into ribbons, and make your way across the pipes again through more grapple points.
The next platforming section requiresshooting some buttons to close some toxic pipes for you to jump on for some more traversal.
If you make it across ahead of your partner, there are buttons on the other side of the pipes for you to shoot, so don’t worry about leaving them behind.
Next, unlock a pipe that releases some drones for you to grab on.Steer them left or right to avoid hitting laser-coated pipes.
You’ll then slide down a slope where you’re able to launch Mio to a far away platform, where she’llopen up a gate via a terminal.
You’ll notice some boxes being carried via conveyor track. These boxes go through a red force field, and then a blue, andthere’s no apparent hint to solving this puzzle.
I’ll admit that this section took me and my partner way longer to figure out than we would have preferred, but once you understand how it works, it’s quite simple.
First, stick one of Zoe’s grenades in one of the boxes. Before the grenade can be destroyed by the red force field, you’ll needMio to open a hole in that force field with her grenade, which will clear the way for the box to continue to the blue force field.
Mio will signal you to detonate your grenade, opening the way for your partner to hop through and clear the other force field for you.
Once through, you’ll need toplant a grenade on the yellow dot before shooting the panels to align them upwards.Detonate your grenades to unlock the mechanism to allow you to launch yourselves up to the next section.
Test Chamber
You’ll arrive at a test chamber, where you’ll noticetwo launch pads and several grapple points to help you get around the chamber.
You’ll need to firstcreate a hole in the box on the opposite side with your grenade and launch your partner into itto let them shoot the panels inside.
Completing this short puzzle will trigger a boss fight with the Factory Warden, a spider tank with a suite of attacks that can bebest avoided if you make use of the grapple hooks scattered throughout the arena.
But before that, the boss will begin the fight by sticking its head in a box and incinerating whoever’s in it.ensure to open the force field to let your partner out.
With the boss battle in full force, you’ll need tocripple the tank by shooting the panels on its legs and then detonating your grenadesto take out its force fields before shooting both panels trapped inside.
The boss will also spew flames from its “head,” dealing massive damage, and deploy a volley of bombs by spinning around.
Every time you take down a leg, the boss will be briefly stunned and deploy several drones that will chase you and attack you, which you can shoot down.
After taking down each leg, the boss will jump high in the air and stomp the ground, unleashing a wave of flames that you’ll need to jump over.
Once all legs are destroyed, the boss will be carried by a set of magnetic cranes and carried above a pool of acid.
You’ll need tolaunch each other with the launch pads and destroy the magnets by destroying the force field, then shoot the corresponding panels in slow motion.
Destroying both cranes will cause them to drop the boss into the pool of acid, where it’ll melt and be reduced to a floating head, enraging it.
It’ll then start spewing green, fiery acid at you. Keep shooting at it until it crashes onto the ground.
Grapple onto its head and use the button mash promptsto lift the hatch to its core, allowing you to shoot into its head.
In the next phase, the arena will start flooding with acid, along with several floating platforms.Keep moving on those platforms while the boss stalks you under the acid.
Pay attention to what shield it has and take it down. It’ll stalk you like a shark (and give you an early hint of what color its shield is) before popping out to attack you.
Once the boss’s health reaches a critical point, you’ll finish it off in a brief chase, where it is carried on a conveyor belt to a hydraulic press, which you’llshoot to activate and crush the warden to bits.
Defeating this pesky boss will allow you to push forward and crawl through the air ducts and into a platforming section.
You’ll then come across a new mechanic:energy fields that allow the person with the corresponding color to pass through(and kill the other player).
You’ll notice some knitted fish plushies to the left, which willlead you to the"Moon Market" side story.
Proceed onward, and you’ll reach the end of the path, where you’ll find two panels that you need to shoot. However, it’s protected by a window, so you’ll need tojump down a platform and shoot it from there.
Unfortunately, this will trap you, and you’ll need to release the gates by shooting the panels above to avoid being crushed.
You’re not out of the woods yet, because you’ll be dropped down a slope where you’ll be subjected to a series of traps.
First, you’ll need topass through color-coded grids. Then, you musthelp each other pop the correct force fields. Lastly, shoot the correct panels to open doors and disable traps.
To make this slip ‘n’ slide as smoothly as possible, you’ll need tostay alive together and quickly react to everything the game throws at you, because you can’t clear these traps without your partner.
You’ll reach the end of the slide, ending this subchapter and beginning the next.
Run And Gun
This subchapter is aMetroid-likeside-scroller where you’ll traverse deeper into the facility. The puzzles here will be relatively simple.
There’s a rotating green laser blade that you’ll need to follow. When it turns clockwise, jump over it and then go under it.Then, shoot the spinning buttons to let yourselves down.
Like any side-scroller, you may now also jump down from certain, thinner platforms.
You’ll arrive at a gate blocked by a pendulum mechanism.Shooting both buttons will trigger the pendulum to swing the other way.
You’ll both need to stick your grenades onto the pendulum and swing it,detonating the grenades when they’re close to the three nodes.
Once the gate is unlocked, drop down and do the same bubble strategy in Toxic Tumblers, where you pop the bubble, enter it, and pop it again to exit.
You’ll encounter a turret. Pop its shield and destroy it.
Then you’ll have to go through a series of purple portals. Not only can you walk and jump through them, butyou can also shoot through them, allowing you to destroy turrets before they spot you.
Proceed onward, and you canunlock a gate by shooting up a portal, which will carry the bullets to buttons in another room.
You’ll then be trapped in a small room where you’ll face some lawnmower enemies.Destroy the first one, then shielded versions will appear.
You can jump on the yellow platforms, which will fade for a short duration after you stand on them.
Finish the fight, and proceed upwards, where you’ll find a new puzzle element:blocks that retract or extend as you shoot them.
While you’re in the side-scrolling subchapters, your guns don’t need to cooldown, so you can shoot a stream of bullets indefinitely.
Continue onward. You’ll find some seesaw mechanisms with sliding lasers that you can jump over.
Clear that platforming section and you’ll then find some mechs. Defeat them and go through some portals.
Entering the first portal will drop you to your death. Before that, kill your momentum bydouble jumping and then dashing into the next portal. After destroying a horde of tiny drones, move on to the next section.
12 Best Cozy Games With Fun Side Quests
Cozy games where side quests steal the show.
You’ll find a set of buttons that you can shoot to move the portals left or right. Here’s how it works:
Once Mio does the same for Zoe, you can proceed onwards, where you’ll need to quickly climb a set of ladders before you get cut by some lasers.
You can dash on the ladder to cover more ground quickly.
The Overseer
In this subchapter, you’ll be thrown into an intense boss fight with the Overseer, an oversized mech with powerful attacks.
Since you have unlimited ammo, keep shooting at the boss while avoiding its attacks.
The Overseer will begin the fight by spittingballs of acid. Then, it’ll launch a spinningspiked ball that bounces from one side of the arena to the other until you destroy it.
It’ll then deploy its rocket eyes, which havecolored shields for you to pop, which you’ll then destroy.
Keep avoiding the boss’s attacks while shooting its face.Eventually, the ball will also have shields, which you’ll need to pop before damaging it.
Once you get the boss at about a third of its health, it’ll start throwing up acid, flooding the arena.Keep moving up the platforms while using portals and shooting colored blocks to help each other move up.
You’ll then land on a platform, and will start seeing the fight through the boss’s eyes while you maintain control of your characters.
The boss will launch barrels that rotate and spew flames.Use your guns to shoot the barrels, which deactivate them and allow you to throw them at the boss’s head. You’ll know you can toss the barrels when they’re sparking with electricity instead.
Go around the arena, andshoot and throw the barrels one at a time. Don’t get too caught up in the chaos of the fight, as throwing a single barrel can free up a lot of clutter on the screen.
At half health, the boss will start chasing you, firing more missiles that form fiery walls that kill on contact. They’re color-coded, so you’ll need toshoot the corresponding missiles to be able to run away from the boss.
Zoe and Mio will thenrun towards the screen a la Crash Bandicoot.Jump over rolling pipes and avoid his eye lasersuntil you reach a dead end, where you’ll make your final stand.
The Overseer will start smashing the floor and sending out waves of flames, which you’ll need to jump over.Survive his onslaught of attacks while shooting his face.
Close the door on him by continuously shooting the wheels that appear, though that won’t work the first time, as he’ll pry the doors open and comb the area with his eye lasers.
Keep shooting him while he shakes the ground to dump explosive barrels on your head.
Eventually, the wheels appear again, and you’ll have one last chance to close the doors on him, but this time they grip onto his neck like a vice grip and decapitate him.
Defeating the Overseer begins a cutscene, where youboth acquire another upgrade:Jetpacks.
Soaring Desperados
Your new jetpacks replace your double jump, allowing you to soar in the air for a limited time before you have to land to recharge.
you may alsodash in midair, though it costs considerably more fuel.Passing through energy fields of your corresponding color gives you not just a boost, but refills your jetpack’s fuel.
You can still use your guns while in the air, which will be useful for upcoming puzzles.
Continue ascending the facility, and you’ll return to 3D gameplay.
Unlock the doors and exit the tunnel, returning to the factory’s exterior and back out in the open, where you can finallyavoid the sliding saw with relative ease.
As you make your way up the pipes, you’ll find the"Notebook" side storyto your left.On your right is the way to continue your path.
Keep traversing through the area, and you canfind platforms to open up and rest for you to recharge your jetpacks.
Pass through the grids and hook onto some grapple points, where you’llunlock a pair of doors by simultaneously detonating your grenades near three nodes.
Go through the tunnels and you’ll engage more mechs in combat. With more aerial mobility, you can now take to the skies and blow your enemies up with much more ease.
After some brief traversal, hug the left wall and you’ll find another locked mechanism.
Here’s what you both need to do:Place a grenade on the yellow node. Then, shoot the bar inward with the exposed panel, but be careful to time it right between the moving boxes, as any collision will reset the bar’s position.
Once the bar is inside the large box, detonate both your grenades at the same time, which unlocks the mechanism, opening the doors for you to fly into.
Pass through more grids and avoid laser walls. Unlock the door at the end by shooting its panels.
Then, you’ll arrive at a vertical column with a spinning laser wall and color-coded force fields.Pop those shields with your grenades and drop down.
You’ll land in a room where you’ll need to (unfortunately) get rid of your jetpacks. Two angels have now lost their wings.
Before you move on, verify to rest on the bench near the window, as this isthe third bench for you to sit on to unlock the"A Tale of Two Besties" achievement/trophy.
Once you’re ready, continue through the doors. Activate the terminals together to move on to the next section.
The Escape
Mio and Zoe’s will have a heartfelt conversation in a cutscene, and discover that the source of the mech’s ultimate weapon is the blood of a giant octopus-like creature that turns out to be a metaphor for her father suffering from cancer treatment.
The cutscene will throw you into a fast-paced subchapter whereyou’ll escape the crumbling mech factory via jet skis, with which you can dive under debris.
Follow the creature through the facility.Steer carefully.
you may dive for as long as you hold down the button.
There is not much else to walk through in this chapter other than toavoid debris and follow a linear path of destruction.
Eventually, you’ll escape the facility and complete the chapter with a touching cutscene where Mio and Zoe get closer.
System Fail Safe Mode
Before Mio and Zoe can enter the next chapter, Rader locks them out, forcing them to navigate the digital world with nothing but teamwork and coordination.
Mio and Zoe are now tethered, and you’ll die if you’re too far away from each other, or if one of you dies.Either both of you succeed, or neither one of you will.
To solve each puzzle, you must manage the tension of your tether without it breaking while navigating all sorts of platforming puzzles.
In the platforming section, you must climb on top of a set of stairs that will rise and lower in slow intervals. Time your jumps when the stairs turn horizontal.
Next, you’ll need tostep on a plate while your partner rides up a platform and steps on the other to take you up with them.
To maintain the strength of your tether, stay as close as you possibly can unless the puzzles demand otherwise.
You’ll go through some straightforward platforming sections until you get to another plate, where you’ll step on it to raise a platform from below.
Stepping on the other plate will raise the previous plate to the platform above and drop this one, so verify to jump to a nearby block before you both die.
Stepping on the next plate will bring up another block from below.Ride that one and you’re now reunited.
You’ll then arrive at the next platforming section, which requirescareful positioning and timing, from thrusting beams to rotating cubes and shifting cliffs.
Next, get on the launch pad, and you’ll start freefalling. Avoid the spinning spikes so that you can continue now as a side-scroller.
You’ll then arrive at a short puzzle in which one of you has tostep on a plate to raise a pillar, and the next plate lowers the one right next to it.
Step off the first plate to allow yourself to go through, where you’ll slide down onto a couple of floating blocks.
Keep running until you reach the end, where you’ll touch the glitch and enter the fifth chapter:Rise of the Dragon Realm.
