Upcoming life simulation Life By You sounds like it will have a bountiful amount of access for the modding community, as its development team is touting the moddability of its product.

In a presentation made as part of the Future Games Show on Saturday, Paradox Tectonic Studio Director of Marketing King Choi called Life By You “one of the most moddable and open-world life simulation games,” and the development team is aiming to make a world that allows players creativity to really shine. “The creator tools as well as editors that you’ll be able to play with in our game will allow you to get your hands on the same tools that our game team is using to actually make the game in order to make your own UGC [user-generated content] and mods,” he noted.

Paradox Tectonic, a California-based division of Swedish developerParadox Interactive, first announcedits upcoming life sim in a 30-minute presentation video back in March. The game goes into early access on Epic Games Store and Steam in September, and its development team includes Rod Humble, a former developer withElectronic Artsand head of The Sims from October 2008 until his departure in December 2010.

The Sims

While its initial reveal caused many to compare it to EA andMaxis’The Simsfranchise, the newly shown footage from Saturday points to a few things that make Life By You distinct. Firstly, while Sims communicate in a made-up language knows as Simlish, the new footage shows the human characters in Life By You carrying out actual conversations via text bubbles written in English. Not much of this has been revealed, but in one of the few conversations shown, two customers in a coffee shop are shown, with one telling the other to “Make it quick” and the other introducing herself by name and asking “And you are?” Choi noted that the stories in the game will be “driven by real-language conversations,” though it’s yet to be seen just how in-depth these conversations will get.

The coffee shop is also the backdrop for one of the job locations in the game, where one character is working as a barista. While most jobs in The Sims simply involve leaving the house for work and returning at the end of the shift, the video for Life By You showcases a player actually seeing their character at work and having them perform tasks such as cleaning display cases. Choi confirmed that completing tasks like this will be part of the actual jobs in the game.

Additionally, the game offers an open-world feel, as we can see one character running through a field as the camera follows directly behind. It sounds as though transition between the different areas of the customizable towns will be seamless, as Choi said you’ll be able to “live out the lives and stories that you create in a world without loading screens.”

Life By You enters Early Access of Steam and Epic Games Store on September 12. Preorder bonuses are available, including the exclusive Life Begins Pack, and the first 100,000 pre-registrants will get acess to a private Discord server that Choi said will help “inform the roadmap and the development of the game.”
