The remake ofSilent Hill 2has finally hit store shelves and the gaming community did not waste a beat getting into the story to revisit the eerie and creepy town of Silent Hill. The game developers of Bloober Team recaptured what made the original version a success with a twist.
There are a few ways to end one playthrough and some newer ones that can only be achieved by replaying the story through a New Game Plus file. Many fans would consider the Rebirth ending the canon ending for a replay; however, a few items are required to unlock this version.
The Rebirth Ending in the Remake of Silent Hill 2 Can Be a Chore
The game developers atBloober Teamdid not hold back and gave this beloved classic the remake treatment it deserves. The visuals, graphics, sound design, character models, and everything else have been rebuilt from the ground up thanks to the impressive horsepower of Unreal Engine 5 to make the titular Silent Hill look the part of a creepy town.
Players of the remake can go for a second round with New Game Plus and the developers added an extra ending called the Rebirth Ending. From the name itself, James Sunderland intends to make a bargain with the Old Gods of Silent Hill to resurrect his deceased wife, Mary.
To achieve the Rebirth Ending, players must acquire a few required items. Collectibles can be the worst part of a video game, especially if they are the last bit to get the platinum trophy; however, these items can determine James’ alternate fate by the end of this story.
The first item is the Crimson Ceremony which can be found near the starting area. The remake starts with James overlooking the town of Silent Hill as he makes his way on foot, James meets a woman named Angela grieving and lost in a local cemetery. The two exchange dialogue and Angela warns James to avoid entering the town. The book can be spotted on a lone grave by a tree.

The second item is the White Chrism, and this item can be obtained at the West of South Vale.Silent Hill 2players will come across Jack’s Inn and later stumble onto the Baldwin Mansion where the White Chrism is on the table by the entrance.
The third item is the Obsidian Goblet, and it is located inside the Silent Hill Historical Society. James and Mary have a unique history with this museum after laying eyes on the Red Pyramid Thing,better known as the Pyramid Head. The goblet can be spotted from the main room with the painting on the right-hand side.
Lastly, the Lost Memories book can be found inside the Lakeside Hotel around the Lost and Found room. Once all these items are in James’ possession, players can continue normally and the Rebirth ending will be unlocked
The Gaming Community Is Still on the Fence About Which Ending of Silent Hill 2 Remake Is Canon
This alternate ending can be quite tricky to interpret. James is still ridden with guilt for what he did to his wife and is desperate to find some form of atonement. The developers designed each alternate ending to follow through the same structure of boss fights and whatnot with a few alternate cut scenes and dialogue.

James can be seen boarding a boat with something covered with white cloth. Fans assumed it was Mary and James who intended to strike a deal with whatever deity ruled the lands of Silent Hill years ago to bring back his dead wife. Perhaps this ritual could cause him more emotional trauma.
It is worth noting that if players were to miss at least one of the four required items to unlock the Rebirth ending, this ending would be unavailable for that specific playthrough. Players should double-check their inventories before pressing on.
James is adamant about making this ritual work as he rows into the darkest parts of the lake with limited visibility. The ending is quite ominous and the game developers wantedSilent Hill 2players to decipher the meaning of this alternate ending or interpret it however they see fit.
