Leaks are all part and parcel of the modern development cycle, though most leaks tend to slip out of studios by disgruntled ex-employees or wayward conversations with the wrong people. It’s rare for fans to be the culprits, but that’s exactly what is happening withS.T.A.L.K.E.R 2and its developer, Ukraine-based GSC Game World.

In a post over on Russian social media websiteVK.com, a disgruntled so-called “fan” of the developer and its S.T.A.L.K.E.R series has posted a lengthy message threatening to leak content related to the upcoming survival-horror game S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

To prove that the threat is real and to put the shakers on the development studio, the post also includes some images that supposedly come from in-development builds of the game. We can’t verify the images are real, nor can we inspect them very closely as the VK.com social media website only allows signed-in members to view media in detail.

The post claims that the so-called “fans” have obtained cut-scene details, the full story of the game, concept art, in-game maps, and more.

The poster, going by the name “Nick Frost” explains that they’ve taken issue with GSC Game World’s attitude toward S.T.A.L.K.E.R fans in Russia and Belarus and also demands that the developer includes support for the Russian language for its upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, or at the very least offer it as a post-release add-on.

There’s also a personal angle to the threat. Apparently, this Nick Frost character has been banned from the official Discord channel, and now he wants his profile unbanned because he was “banned for nothing” and it’s not “fair.“Diddums.

The post goes on to claim that the threat of releasing story spoilers and other materials does not mean that the “fan” has bad intentions. Instead, they’re claiming that by showing they have the materials but not releasing them shows their “friendly attitude” toward GSC Game World. However, the post also states that GSC Game World has until March 15th to comply with the demands. How friendly.

It’s unclear given the language barrier whether this is the action of one disgruntled Discord dweller or whether it’s the work of a larger group. In any case, whoever is behind the threat is certainly not a true fan.
