Rumors that aNintendoDirect will be happening this September (as it does nearly every year) have been flying all over the place throughout the past week, and some have already taken to leaking what they claim will be announced, such as Twitter/X user Pyoro, who’s seemingly suggesting that one of these announcements will be a new entry in theMariovsDonkey Kongseries.

For credibility’s sake, Pyoro has accurately leaked numerous announcements in the past, most recently teasingSuper Mario Bros. Wonderand theSuper Mario RPGremake a few days before they were revealed, so more likely than not, there’s some truth to their latest Donkey Kong tease.

As seen below, Pyoro posted a popular clip from theSuper Mario Bros. Movie, where Donkey Kong rolls out onto a colosseum to fight Mario. They originally posted the clip by itself without much context, but then, a day later, added a caption in a quote writing “You see who he is, but never see who he is fighting.”

Replying to that post, a commenter asked “Does it have the minis,” to which Pyororepliedsimply, “yes.” To put all of this information into context, the “minis” refer to the small mechanical Mario toys that are essentially the mascots and main gameplay elements of the more recent Mario vs. Donkey Kong games.

Furthermore, in most levels for Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, the game’s latest installment from 2015, you don’t actually see Donkey Kong but just control the Mario minis to get past each stage, which may be the explanation behind the “You see who he is, but never see who he is fighting,” line.

Finally, it’s likely no coincidence that Pyoro posted the specific clip of when Donkey KongfightsMario in the movie. With all this taken into account, particularly the direct confirmation of the minis, it seems that what Pyoro is suggesting is that the rumored Nintendo Direct will contain an announcement for a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong game.

This may come as a big disappointment for some, as many simply thought Pyoro’s original post meant that a standalone DK game to be announced. There are still numerous avid fans of the Donkey Kong Country series, and there have also been manyrumorsthat a large-scale Donkey Kong 3D platformer has been in development for quite some time.
