Even though he loved to train with Goku, he was not completely inclined to that idea. Instead, he was a studious person.
Being studious, he had to read and use the computer for research. These things may have damaged his eyesight and caused him to rely on a pair of glasses. He is probably the first Saiyan to have a pair of glasses. These incidents happened when he was leveled up.
Even though there have been a few slips from Gohan, there is no doubt that he is one of the most powerful Saiyans. InDragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, he attained a new form known as Beast Gohan. Akira Toriyama, the creator ofDragon Ball, said it made him the strongest Saiyan in the franchise. So, even after having poor eyesight, he still managed to surpass Goku and Vegeta.
