The epitome of humor, sarcasm, and all the eccentric things you could ask for,Brooklyn 99(alsoBrooklyn Nine-Nine) holds a long-established reputation as one of the best sitcoms brought to the screens to date. An American police procedural sitcom television series that aired on Fox, and later on NBC, it ruled fans’ hearts for eight seasons made over the course of eight years.

If anything, the show has been so critically and generally commended and has left such an indelible mark on viewers that fans have long been campaigning for a revival series since the show went off-air. But as much as everyone may be yearning for it – especially after Terry Crews’ promise, the said revamped version may never happen, as recently emphasized by Melissa Fumero.

Melissa Fumero explains whyBrooklyn 99may never get revived

Even thoughBrooklyn 99has left a lot of fans wheezing with laughter with tears in their eyes at its hilarity, it has also left quite a lot of them heartbroken, including even the cast members. While the show’s conclusion with season 8 was one of the reasons why, another major reason behind the heartbreak was actorAndre Braugher‘sunexpected passing last year at 61.

For eight stunning years, from 2013 to 2021, Braugher perfectly embodied the strict yet warm and wisely authentic leader, Captain Raymond “Ray” Holt in the series. To say the least, he was such an integral part of the show that seeing it getting revived without him would feel like cheating, with his absence glaring a massive hole in the show — if it ever comes to be.

In a recent interview withScreen Rant, actress Melissa Fumero, who starred alongside the late legend as Amy Santiago — a main character in the workplace police procedural sitcom that encompassed the everyday story of NYPD’s Jake Peralta and his team at the police station — pointed out the same while admitting she wanted to return as well.

Brooklyn 99: Why Eva Longoria’s Sophia Was a Better Match for Jake Than Amy Santiago

Oh gosh. We’ve definitely all played with the idea, and we definitely all miss each other so much, and miss spending our days together. I don’t think we could ever do it, though, without Andre, so I don’t know that that would happen, but, yeah. I hope to work in other things with everyone. Stephanie and I have a podcast together now, and I think we’ll just always be looking for ways to work together again.

Needless to say,Melissa Fumero‘s comment is more than enough to put the fact out there that a revamped show or even a movie for the sitcom is more unlikely than likely. And, as agonizing as it may seem to many, it’s only right, for bearing to watch aBrooklyn 99revival without Braugher’s Capt. Ray would be more heartbreaking to watch than yearning for it in the first place.

This reminds us of Terry Crews’ old words on aBrooklyn 99film

While Fumero’s discouraging words for a revival show/movie for the smash-hit sitcom in the talk are new, they do remind us ofTerry Crews‘ old comments about wanting to return to the show and pitching ideas for a film. This dates back to 2022, when Crews, who played Terrence “Terry” Vincent Jeffords on the show, shared how much he was still interested in the said film.

Talking toThe Hollywood Reporterabout his interest in the ideas he reportedly pitched for aBrooklyn Nine-Ninefilm, he said: “Oh my God. I am definitely still interested. I still think we could do a heist movie.(Laughs.)We always had our yearly heist episode and I think that would be brilliant, especially with Peacock and all the great things that NBC can already do.”

He even added that other cast members would want to return too, saying:

I think that every cast member will be down for us to do a nice hour-and-a-half episode of Brooklyn 99, make it 3 episodes all involving the heist and a new heist and it would be all wonderful. I love, love, love my castmates. I spent 8 years with these guys and they’re truly family, and I miss them every day.

But what’s worth noting here is that this comment came more than a year before Andre Braugher’s tragic death, which hadCrews emphasizing how deeply hurt he was by his castmate’s sudden demise. That said, it’s likely that even Crews changed his mind about bringing back the team for a revival show, especially after Braugher’s passing away.

Either way, for now, it seems sincerely unlikely for aBrooklyn Nine-Nineshow or movie to take place anytime soon. And, we’re sure that without Braugher, fans may not be wanting one either.

Brooklyn 99 can currently be streamed on Netflix.
