Singer-Actresses Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez might compete for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Both Grande and Gomez have leveled up their acting careers with two notable roles this year. These two are included in our predictions for the category, alongside some of the other best performances of the year.

FandomWire’s other nominees include an Oscar winner in the category, a rising star in dramatic roles, and aStar Warsactress. Fans will also see a surprising snub in here and we have the right reason to believe that Academy voters aren’t too keen to nominate her.
FandomWire’s predicted nominees for Best Supporting Actress
At the 82nd Golden Globes Awards, the Best Supporting Actress award went toZoe Saldaña. However, we predict that the actress will be absent from the nominees, after what one Academy voter revealed toVariety. Speaking about“category fraud”and Saldaña’sEmilia Pérezrole in particular, the acting branch member shared,“I love them, but let’s be honest, she’s a lead.”
Instead, it would be Saldaña’s co-starSelena Gomezwho will be a major contender in the category. She was also nominated alongside Saldaña at the Golden Globes and she has also received a BAFTA nomination. Given the film’s overwhelming presence in the awards seasondespite the criticism against it, Gomez is a strong contender for the award.

WhileAriana Grandealso received criticism of“category fraud”, she appears to be safe since her film’s title,Wicked, alludes to Cynthia Erivo’s character as the lead. Grande has earned nominations in all the major awards, including the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and BAFTAs. She also has the backing of Universal, which could work in her favor.
Race to Oscars 2025: FandomWire’s Predictions for Best Supporting Actor
Margaret Qualleyhas already proven that she’s far more than a nepo kid in the industry. Qualley has two incredible performances to her name this year. She appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’Kinds of Kindnessand starred alongside Demi Moore inThe Substance. We predict the latter film will earn her a Best Supporting Actor nomination at Oscars 2025. Interestingly, Moore is inFandomWire’s predicted nominees for Best Actress.
Rogue One: A Star Wars StorystarFelicity Jonesis a popular contender for her role in A24’sThe Brutalist. She played Erzsébet Tóth, the wife of Adrien Brody’s character. She earned a Golden Globe and a BAFTA nomination for the role. Jones has a previous Oscar nomination for her role inThe Theory of Everything.

Jamie Lee Curtisis also looking to score her second Best Supporting Actress Oscar after winning the award forEverything Everywhere All at Onceat the 95th Academy Awards. She played Annette alongside Pamela Anderson inThe Last Showgirl. While she did not receive a Golden Globe nomination, her SAG and BAFTA nominations put her back in the competition.
The shocking omissions of some of these names from some of the major awards have left fans and critics disappointed. Universal and Netflix’s influence can be seen in this aspect, as their actresses got nominated category in all the major awards.

FandomWire’s Best Supporting Actress predictions: Also in contention
Apart from the five actors mentioned as frontrunners, we also predict four other actresses who have a fair chance of winning in the Best Supporting Actress category. Despite her brief role, Isabella Rossellini’s turn as Sister Agnes inConclavewas memorable. Rossellini’s Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations put her in a strong position as well.
Race to Oscars 2025: FandomWire’s Prediction for Best Actor
After her 2022 Oscar snub forTell, Danielle Deadwyler looks to get back into the Oscar race with her role inThe Piano Lesson. Debut filmmaker Malcolm Washington picked up August Wilson’s play to adapt into a film, with Deadwyler portraying Berniece in the film. The cast has some prominent names like Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Ray Fisher.
Top Gun: MaverickandFUBARactressMonica Barbaroplays folk singer Joan Baez inA Complete Unknown. The Bob Dylan biopic might earn her an Oscar nomination, a recognition for the rising talent. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is also one of our favorites who could surprisingly make it into the race for her role as Hattie inNickel Boys.
