Quick Links
Ever since the start of the franchise, there have been many birds to choose from for flying-typePokémon, from Pidgey and Spearow to Hoothoot and Natu. The pair from generation 5 was the vulture Vullaby and the eagle Rufflet, and Rufflet’s appearance inLegends: Arceusunderwent a fun makeover.

Carrying the tradition started in Sun & Moon, the Hisui region feature familiar Pokémon under a Hisuian regional form. While Rufflet itself is unchanged from the normal-flying type it started, as its evolution, Braviary, is now a psychic-flying type. Making the evolution all the more interesting for the player’s team.
Finding Rufflet
The only area where you can naturally find wild Rufflet is in the Alabaster Icelands. Thanks to the Daybreak update, it is possible to find Pokémon in different areas during a massive mass outbreak, but given the random nature of the outbreaks, it is best to stick with the Icelands if going after Rufflet specifically. Lake Acuity and Heart’s Crag are the two locations within Alabaster Icelands where Rufflet can be found. Rufflet’s evolved form Braviary can also be found in Lake Acuity if you simply want to cut out the middle man and skip straight to the evolved form.
Rufflet will be found flying around, either above a body of water or above the snowy ground. Use whatever approach works best for your play style as unlike Pokémon such as Starly, Rufflet is not afraid of combat and will not run away from a battle or away from the player. Rufflet is a hostile Pokémon, which means it has no problem attacking the player outright if spotted.

If you have been spotted, either throw an item just as a snowball to weaken the Rufflet and immediately try to catch it, or just pick one of your party Pokémon and start a battle. If you are yet to be spotted by a Rufflet, you can use bait and then try to catch it, throw a Pokéball immediately and catch it, or throw one of your party Pokémon at the Rufflet’s back to start a battle with an advantage.
Rufflet is a dual normal and flying-type, making it weak to rock and electric-type attacks. The Alabaster Icelands are unlocked later in the game, and Rufflet’s level will reflect that. The average level for wild Rufflet tends to be level 52. This high level likely won’t mean too much of a challenge by this point in the game, and the high level is incredibly beneficial for players who can’t wait to evolve it into Braviary.

Once you manage to catch Rufflet through whichever method you choose, make sure to go to the stables and add it to your team, unless you did not already have a full team, and this was done automatically.

Raising Rufflet To The Right Level
The method to evolve Rufflet is completely unchanged from its debut inPokémon Black and White. At level 54, Ruffler will gain the chance to evolve. In Legends: Arceus, this is no longer automatic; the player just initiates the evolution whenever they feel like on the inventory/team menu. There is no daycare center in Legends: Arceus, so the easy method of running back and forth until your Pokémon reaches a good level is not an option. That said, there are plenty of other methods that prove easy, and again, Rufflet will generally only have two levels to go until they are ready to evolve.
If you haven’t completed the story, there will be upcoming battles that can easily get your Rufflet right to level 54. You could also use this as an excuse to do quick crafting supplies runs. Just throw Rufflet’s Pokéball at an ore deposit or snow mound, and Rufflet will gain experience points while you gain the crafting items and treasure. Your whole team will gain the points, but the Pokémon that does the searching will gain the most. There are also rare candies and experience candies that will instantly give experience points. The exp candies will give a different amount based on the size, so it would be best to use large candies considering Rufflet’s high level, and a rare candy is always a guaranteed level up.

In no time at all, you will have a Braviary.
Being a psychic-flying type, Braviary will be weak to rock, electric, dark, and ghost-type attacks. It will be strong against grass, fighting, and poison-type Pokémon. Braviary is a powerful Pokémon, and one of the over 200 needed to complete the Legends: Arceus Pokédex. For players who don’t care about completion and only want a team of strong Pokémon, Braviary makes for a great flying type, even with options such as Staraptor and Crobat. Leaving Rufflet until later game locations also means it won’t be much of a headache for players who do not have the patience to level grind.
