Admitting that his career decisions have often been influenced by his financial condition, Bale also confessed to wrestling with morality. Stating that while he wishes to make rational decisions, Bale also noted the importance of money.
Absolutely. Because you’ve seen how much money affects life. There’s been times when you’ve watched your parents struggling like crazy and you can’t help in those moments but go, “Is it sinful that I’m not going to do this? Have I lost myself? Or am I losing myself by doing this?” You’re making a great living regardless, without taking those gigs, right? Even with doing the smaller stuff, by comparison, out-of-this-world, dream fortune. So there’s always that for me: this duality.

I feel a great guilt over not taking parts like that, because I think about my parents and I go, “Oh, my God,” you know? “If my dad was still around what would he tell me?” Now, even though my instinct is “No way. I don’t want to go near that,” there’s a greed to it. I don’t want to lose myself in that. But I hate to be at all judgmental of anybody who makes these choices. It’s something I wrestle with a great deal myself, so absolutely, absolutely.
Explaining how his childhood struggles shaped him as a rational human being, which now influences his decisions, Christian Bale admitted, feeling a major dilemma upon accepting costly projects.

Without naming the below-average movie that he accepted for the money, Christian Bale confessed to his moments of despair midway through filming, which made him beg for an exit. Despite his reputation for fully committing to his roles, Bale admitted his desire to get fired since he could no longer continue filming. The interviewer asked:
What’s the closest you’ve come? Have you said yes to something then said no?

I’ve pleaded to get fired! I’ve asked for that and they wouldn’t. I had somebody ask me that the other day. He said, “How many people have you ever had fired?” I said, “No one. I’m not in a position to fire anybody.” I don’t know if I could anyway. I’d just feel so bad. No, producers do that. But I said, “I’ve asked.” I’ve asked the producers, “Please, God, let me off this!”
Although the interviewer attempted to pull out the name of the project or the producer to deduce which high-budget movie made Christian Bale miserable with its below-par script and production, Bale refused to give out the name. Proceeding with the interview, Bale left his readers to wonder if he was eventually let go or if he had to continue filming till the end.
