PlayStation held its first State of Play of the year and showcased several new games coming to PS5. Sony announced the State of Play event and stated that it would feature nearly 15 games in around 40 minutes, and it certainly kept the promise with the stellar showcase of upcoming games in 2024 and later.

This comes after Xbox held its Developer Direct showcase earlier this month and revealed the highly anticipated titles coming to its console, including titles such asIndiana Jones and the Great CircleandSenua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The State of Play event featured some of the highly anticipated games, showcased trailers, and provided release dates for the titles.
PlayStation Counters Xbox With New Game Announcements at State of Play
One of the biggest reveals at the PlayStationState of Playwas the new trailer forDeath Stranding 2. The lengthy nine-minute trailer was exciting but also gruesome and showcased a cat and a living patient with strange marks and black paint. The trailer also featured a conversation between Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter and Lea Séydoux’s Fragile, as well as a tiny man-like puppet.
The official title of the game was also revealed, and it’s calledDeath Stranding 2 On The Beachand is slated to release sometime in 2025. This is the first official trailer after a long wait since the reveal trailer dropped at The Game Awards in 2022. The trailer also gave some insights into the story and gameplay with swordplay, gun fights, and more. The game looks to be more strange and weird than its predecessor.

Hideo Kojima also announced that he is making a new“next-generation”action espionage title in collaboration with PlayStation Studios. Kojima revealed that it will be a new IP and added that he will be celebrating 40 years of his game production career in two years. He said that the newly announced“title will be the culmination of my work.”
PlayStation also announced that a remaster ofUntil Dawn, the interactive classic horror title from Supermassive Games, is coming for PS5 and PC this year. The trailer for the remaster showcased the stunning graphics and revealed that Ballistic Moon is working on the game.

Sega announced a newSonicgame titledSonic x Shadow Generations,which is a remaster ofSonic Generations, adding that the game will be released in 2024. Sony and Konami also revealed a newSilent Hillgame titledSilent Hill: The Short Message,which is free to play and is now available on PS5.Silent Hill 2also received a new trailer, and fans are hyped.
Zenless Zone Zero, Dave the Diver, and More Are Coming to PlayStation Soon
It was also announced thatZenless Zone Zerofrom Hoyoverse is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.Judas, the first-person shooter title fromBioShockdirector Ken Levine, also got a new trailer at the event. However, the game did not get a release window.Dave the Diveris also coming for PS5 in April 2024 and will get a newGodzillaexpansion in May 2024, a month after the PS5 launch.
AMetroVR game has also been announced titledMetro Awakening VRfor PSVR 2 and is coming this year.Metro Awakening VRis set after the events ofMetro 2033and follows a doctor who goes on a journey to find his wife. The trailer was full of jump scares and is not for the lighthearted. Another title calledLegendary Talesis coming for PSVR 2, and it launches on June 04, 2025.Foamstars, the 4v4 online party shooter, also got a new trailer ahead of the PS Plus release.

State of Play also gave new trailers for upcoming titles likeV Rising,Stellar Blade,Helldivers 2,Dragon’s Dogma 2, andRise of the Ronin. The State of Play event will be back again on June 12, 2025, with a dedicated celebration ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth.It will feature an“extensive look”at the game and provide new gameplay details.
