Although most coreSoulsbornetitles have featured co-op, it wasn’t untilElden Ring Nightreignthat a full version of seamless FromSoftware co-op was implemented. In fact, if you had any hopes that the originalElden Ringwould have full, seamless co-op, you likely felt cheated when your companion automatically unsommoned once a boss is defeated.
But lucky for us, modders have always been there to pick up FromSoftware’s slack.Even for the original Elden Ring, when players wished for a fully co-op experience to travel alongside friends throughout The Lands Between,modders were thereto give us that whole experience.

Nightreign, however, for the first time in FromSoft history, featured full co-op as fans have always wanted from the get-go. However,that hasn’t stopped modders from taking advantage of Nighreign by boosting the co-op and adding in amod for up to 6 playersto play alongside each other seamlessly.
Nightreign’s Newest Six-Player Mod
This recent mod for Elden Ring Nightreign has allowed for up to 6 players to play alongside each other, with added balancing features.So, if you’re in a friend group of 4+ people who all bought Nightreign but could never play all together, now you finally can.
Although Elden Ring Nightreign is easily the most experimental title in the whole Soulsborne series, FromSoftware still had a very unique vision in mind. And a part of this vision was built on 3-player co-op, with little to no exceptions.
Although they have since added features forduo parties, on release, this was wholly absent.Nightreign, like all FromSoftware visions, had a bit of stubbornness in its design, with the game being perfectly balanced for that perfect 3-player party.
Elden Ring Modder Launches Nightreign Two-Player Mode Before FromSoft
Beaten to the punch, FromSoft will be playing catchup for Nightreign duos.
So obviously, the mod, which allows for up to 6 players, has garnered some attention, but that doesn’t mean that the mod works without its issues. The mod itself is already being patched for bugs and glitches, so be careful, especially if your party is reaching up to the 6-player cap.
But, the most interesting thing is how the mod’s creator, Yui,has expressed in a blog postthat “whilst in theory this player cap can be expanded further,beyond 6 players seems overkill and even with a very high scaling curve for enemies the game just becomes comically easy.”
So, even though the mod has expanded on FromSoftware’s vision by giving us the multiplayer co-op we never expected, they hit their moral boundary, like FromSoft likely did in the decision to limit the original cap to 3 players.
Although the game could always have more players, Elden Ring isn’tBattlefield 6, and more players aren’t always better.It seems like upwards of 6 players in one Elden Ring fight, while epic, would be overpowered no matter how you cut it.
Honestly, as someone who always wanted to play Nightreign alongside my 4-5 other friends who all adore Soulsborne titles, maybe this is the sign for all of us to give this mod a go.
