Black Clovermight face a lot of allegations about being unoriginal, but if there’s one field in which the series is an absolute beast, it’s the anime’s action sequences. From Asta Vs. Liebe to Magna Vs. Dante, Studio Pierrot gaveBlack Cloverfans some of the best battles in the anime world.
But there’s is one episode that can take over any other battle in the franchise in a second. The battle in question is Julius Novachrono Vs. Licht and the studio went above and beyond in animating the sequence. Fans responded to the episode likewise, as it still stands as one of the most fan-favorite episodes in the franchise.

There are plenty ofBlack Cloverepisodes with ratings above 9 on IMDB. ButBlack Cloverseason 2, episode 42, still stands as theepisode with the highest rating of 9.7.It is the 93rd overall episode of the anime and features the iconic battle between Juliys Novachrono and Licht.

The episode begins with flashes of light shining from the Royal Capital, which actually turns out to be Licht and Julius fighting. The battle is so fast, that it is almost impossible to catch for commoners. The fight was a show-off between Julius’ time magic and Licht’s light magic. Both the fighters are so adept at their abilities that it soon becomes a spectacle for onlookers.
Studio Pierrot seems to have had an absolute field day with episode 93. From the pacing to the animation and even the emotional moments, everything is on point. It can easily be called the best fight scene in the anime and one of the greatest anime battles to exist. In fact, even the voice actors of Julius and Licht were perfect. Julius’ voice invoked authority, wisdom, and kindness, while Licht’s voice had a soft quality along with the required ferocity.

The battle between Licht and Julius continued in full swing, butJulius wasso powerful that he even mocked Licht for his dull movements. Licht is surprised at how easily Julius could keep up with and evade his attacks. He wonders how far in the future Julius can actually see. After another bout of nonstop blows, Julius acknowledged Licht’s speed since he could evade the blows but was not able to catch him.

Soon, Licht discovers that Julius is not going all out with his powers because he does not want to harm the body of William Vangeance. After discovering Julius’ cover-less grimoire, Licht realizes that Julius was created by fate to stop him, which is why the Wizard King needed to be defeated at all costs. As a last-ditch effort, Licht endangers the life of everyone since he clearly could not defeat Julius.
In return, Julius immediately activated Chrono Anastasis which not only stopped but also erased Licht’s spell. However, Julius had to choose between himself and his people, and being the Wizard King, he obviously chose the latter. Licht took this opportunity and stabbed Julius with a light sword. In the very next moment, Yami is seen confronting Licht with his katana, leaving fans with one of the biggest cliffhangers of the anime.
