The map can sometimes be full of notifications, overwhelming new players. While there is no truly right way to play a Persona game, there are some things that can be done early on that will greatly benefit you.
Updated By Joshua Leeds On January 29th, 2023:Persona 5 Royal is a massive JRPG that takes many players over 100+ hours to complete, with many hidden bits of content that can make the game significantly easier should they just know what to do. With the game being so massive, more tips and tricks were added to try and encompass just a bit of all that new players should keep in mind.

15Talk To Everyone
The real world in Persona 5 Royal is full of tons of faceless NPCs to talk to or listen to. While often, their conversations may not be very relevant or just reiterating the story, they can point you in the direction of new social links or recurring NPCs that offer more than just dialogue.
Trader Sakai is one example of an NPC in Kichijoji who can offer the players trades for handy items. Other NPCs may mention people of interest, which are actually social links you haven’t started yet. While there are tons of people to interact with, it is worth your time so as not to miss side content you’d otherwise walk right past.

14Kasumi’s Social Link Bonuses
Kasumi is a new confidant added to the Royal edition of the game. Her social link is unique in that it only has five ranks, which should be completed as early as possible as it will unlock bonus content towards the end of the game.
Kasumi’s social link is also essential as the bonuses are incredibly useful and can make it to that the player will never get ambushed while exploring the metaverse. Should a shadow go to ambush them, you’re given a slow-down to reach and turn the tables, ambushing the shadow. Her skills also allow you to use the grappling hook to ambush enemies from a distance.

13Utilize The Temperance Social Link
While this social link is one of the more controversial ones, it does offer some of the best bonuses in the game. Kawakami’s social link revolves around giving the player more time to work with, and as time is the most important currency in the game, more is always better.

This social link allows you to go out at night after going to the metaverse, slack off in class to make infiltration tools, read a book, or take a nap. She can also be called to do some of the more menial tasks you may not want to spend your time on, such as doing laundry or making coffee and curry.
12Feeding Your Plant
Increasing your social stats is done in the real world and almost always takes up time. Getting a social stat without having to use up time is a great bonus, which is where the plant comes in. What may seem like just another backdrop in your bedroom is actually a great source of Kindness.
Every few days, this plant can be fed with plant food. You’re given between 1-3 points of kindness depending on what kind of food you give. The best part about feeding your plant is it does not take time and can be done right before doing something else, giving your social stat points without losing time.

11Sending Calling Postcards In The Mail
More often than not, when you spend time with a confidant, you’ll want to rank up. Hangouts just for more points can lead to entertaining character moments but will be more of a waste of time than getting them enough points to rank up during that hangout.
From September to October, Calling Postcards can be purchased in a store in Shibuya Central Street and mailed out to confidants from the mailbox in Yongen-Jaya. These postcards give one confidant point to that person but do not require any in-game time to mail. This allows you to get someone enough points to hang out without using time for purely points hangout.

10Getting Weekly Stat Smoothies
In Shibuya underground walkway is a smoothie stand. While initially looking, the smoothies are a bit more pricey than usual items at 5,000 Yen. Every Sunday and only Sunday, you are able to go to this stand and buy one of these smoothies, which gives you points towards one social stat.

While you’re unable to choose which stat the smoothie is for, buying the currently available smoothie will allow a different one to be available next week. If you don’t buy that week’s smoothie, it will still be available each following week until it’s bought. After purchasing a smoothie for all five stats, the rotation starts over and over for as long as you buy smoothies.
9Caroline and Justine’s Confidant
While Caroline and Justine’s confidants can be a bit more difficult to rank up than other confidants, its benefits can quickly snowball your power. Fusion will result in stronger Personas with better abilities than what you find in palaces, and this confidant’s rewards are all about strengthening those personas.
While their early ranks are beneficial, their final rank allows you to pay to create Personas stronger than Joker’s level. With enough Yen, you may create Personas many levels higher than what you’re currently facing, giving Joker incredible stats and abilities.
8Playing Darts And Billiards
The Penguin Sniper Lounge is an added area in Persona 5 Royal. After discovering it, you’re able to return here to play Darts or Billiards. Billiards require you to buy specific items to win another round and increase your overall technical rank and enemy down rate.
Darts is a mini-game where you’re able to invite teammates to play with you. If you and a teammate win, that team gets a level up to their Baton Pass ability. With a total of three levels of Baton passes, that Party member will get bonus damage, restored Health, and restored SP with a successful baton pass. These stats help you win the battle and recover SP, which is invaluable in Palace exploring.
Books are straightforward ways to increase your social stats, and reading them will often unlock better and more beneficial books, causing a beneficial snowball effect. There will be random days on the train, allowing the player to read without using any time.
Later in the game, you’ll also unlock the speed reading book, allowing you to read two chapters at once and be much more efficient at earning social stats. Books can also make you more efficient at crafting, working at the flower shop, playing billiards, or earning more social stats from other activities.
6Fuse Tons of Personas
Joker’s stats, abilities, and affinities are decided by the Persona he has equipped. He can use any Persona in the game, and this allows you the play him however you see fit. Fusing Personas will give Joker access to stronger Personas than what is normally found.
Fusing also gives a chance to level up Personas based on the confidant’s level, increasing them higher than usual and even possibly past Joker’s level. Fusing also allows you to teach a Persona an ability it wouldn’t normally learn to allow you to mix and match different abilities.
